I wasn't sure what to expect when interviewing Cecile de France in person. I've seen only a handful of her films but the one that made the biggest impression on me is her latest, High Tension where she has to battle a vicious killer. It's a French horror film that's a gory throwback to films such as Alien, I Spit on Your Grave, American Gothic and those of that ilk. de France is the star of High Tension and plays Marie who is staying at a friend's house in the French countryside when out of the blue...

I had planned on checking out 'High Tension' this weekend, this interview served as a great primer. Well done.

I love that she's so honest about how she feels about the film! That's great. And that phrase "a prisoner of my choice" is really interesting. I'd never thought of it that way.

Good interview. biggrin

I still would like to see the French language version of HAUTE TENSION, because the English dubbed version I saw on an import DVD was atrocious.

With that said, the movie is cool (except for that unnecessary ending she mentioned).

I plan to see this Lions Gate version tomorrow on the big screen to see how the audience reacts to it. I hope the dubbing won't detract them from digging the movie.

Funny. I'm thinking the same thing. I want to see it with a big audience just to see the reaction. We have not had a horror movie this violent and humorless in the US in a long time.

The Lion's Gate version isn't very heavily dubbed. It's played off that Alex and her family are Americans living in France, so only they speak English. Marie speaks English only when she's talking to them. The rest of the time it's subtitled. As far as dubs go, I didn't think it was too shabby.

the fact that they changed that is completely retarded (about the audio/dub). any tinkering with the original flick, as it was intended to be seen, is not worth any time or money.

anyways...if some of you can snag a foreign dvd version, do so. there's plenty out there with english subtitles and UNCUT. the movie is well shot, it's very gruesome and disgusting and if you like that sort of thing, it's freaking awesome.

what's not awesome is the ending, as it makes the movie almost completely worthless and makes it not make any damned sense. one of the worst endings EVER, it is so atrocious it will drop your iq lower than if you watched mtv and nickelodeon for a week.

but yeah, up until the end, high tension it is and very very gruesome. there's plenty of gore and blood and nastyness, it's great.
