So what the hell is going on with The Crow movies?? The first of course was the best by far. Then City of Angels wasn't bad, Salvation I wasn't so crazy on (plus the fact it never made it to the big screen)....Now Wicked prayer has just kinda faded away, I just don't hear anything about it anymore...I'm asuming it'll be straight to video/dvd. Seems like The Crow franchise is just slowly slippin'. I guess the original is just to hard to top what's everyone else's thoughts??

Everyone has an affection for those movies, but I couldn't sit through the first one.

I liked the first one. I switched the second one off about 30 minutes in. Haven't seen the third. Didn't know about the fourth.

So what's going on with them? I'd say they got progressively worse and word of mouth/bad reviews gave people cause to not see them.

I don't consider any of the sequels to be related to The Crow. The Crow is too good for that shit.

note: I haven't watched the other ones, I can tell just by the previews and what not that they can't compare. besides...how are you going to say that he returns?! (I don't know if that is the premise of the movies) he already returned...He is gone now. she is dead. REST IN PEACE

it sounds like the new one is going straight to video pretty soon. this review at AICN says its ok - for all that's worth.

the first is, of course, awesome. not only is it great on its own, but it has good memories, as one my wife and mine's first *heavy* make-out sessions happened while 'watching' The Crow blush

The only time a character has carried over was "Sara". She was CoA.

i agree. i liked reading the comic several years ago, so i tried very hard to like the movie. i kept popping it in the VCR, thinking "maybe THIS time it won't suck so bad". but it did.

what can i say, i tried.

I just think the first one is good but the others dont really have anything like it did. Best of all though is the graphic novel! Anyone who likes the first movie should really read it.

What she said. Coincidentally I watched the first film tonight with friends and read the graphic novel that one of them brought.

Bingo!

The Crow was a standalone movie. It required no sequel. But because it made New Line a shitload of money, they dragged the cash cow out to be milked yet again. Fucking Hollywood.

While I enjoyed the first movie, it just doesn't compare to the comic books. James O'Barr created an incredibly powerful literary figure that anyone could relate to. The Crow was a complex character who had depth, emotions, drive and motivation. And what made the comic books so great was several of the main villans had incredible depth, as well. I mean, damn, I almost felt sorry for Funboy.

Very heady, well thought-out and wonderfully drawn. The movies just can't compare.

The Crow was a great film the other films were for lack of a better term had no heart or soul. They tried too hard to be edgy or goth or whatever. The Crow simply put is one of the greatest love stories put on film. Yeah compared to the comics it is a little bit lacking but looked at for its own worth ....all I can say is Goddamn.

The original Crow was a terrible movie, and a shameful adulterattion of the books. Everything after that was just a dollar grab.

If you watched it in high school like I did and enjoyed it, don't watch it again. It really doesn't stand up.

Yes the comic is really moving and so well done. One of the best graphic novels, I've read it so many times. Its really sad though. The reason I think the first film does work though is because Brandon Lee is so charismatic in the part.

I recently met a kid working at a Hot Topic. He was going off on how he loved The Crow, and how he and his girlfriend had matching Crow tattoos. When I asked him if he liked the comic, he stared at me open mouthed "There's a comic?" I told him where to find it, and that he needed to read it.

The next time I was in that store, he ran up and hugged me. Apparently he bought and read it. smile

My signed copy of the collected issues (graphic novel) is one of my prized possessions. The original individual issues are locked up my archives...

Agreed. As has been aptly demonstrated in the sequels, a lesser actor wouldn't have been able to carry the movie.

i had no clue there were plans for a 4th movie...
my wife and i recently bought the 3rd and thought it was ok, only good thing about the second one was the soundtrack in my opinion (altho it's been a while, maybe i should see that one again) but by far, the first movie is the best.
i have not read the comic book, but i do have a collection of short stories based upon the philosophy and "theology" (very loosely used there) of The Crow...some of 'em are pretty sweet...some good illustrations also...

of course you can't link to pictures on amazon anymore but the book is here if you are interested...

The soundtrack for the first was awesome. The second movie was good, Mia Kershner(sp?) was really good and I liked the whole Day of the Dead thing the had goin on. The soundtrack for it was really good too. The third....eeeehhh i bout the soundtrack for it...it's o.k.....nothing to rave about though.

anyone ever watch the SERIES they had on t.v., then made a movie..Stairway To Heaven..it sucked soooooo bad. It was a series based basically on the first movie from what I remember.

So actually if you get technical there's already 4 movies if you count the peice of shit movie of the t.v. series....
