I was just looking through some members pictures and I saw this car!!! It's so cute and tiny. I know I have seen one before I think on ER when they were in Paris, so I am assuming it's a European car.

Can you get them in the states?

Its a "Smart" car - they're owned by Mercedes. They're going to introduce them here soon, but I don't think we're getting the super-mini models.

That's Smart. There's quite a few over here, they're neat. They're one of the few cars I'd consider driving. You can park them facing the pavement (sideways) and they don't take up any more room.

They have a website. smile

£7,000 = about $12,700 USD

I love my Echo, because of the size. So anything smaller and I am in love. smile

I looked at their website, but I couldn't find a price. frown

I laughed when I saw my first Smart Car....

When I was crusing in my Alpha Romeo and got passed by one, I stopped laughing as much (not completely, but a little).

Seriously, they're neat little cars, and as you'd expect, they claim get some insane and probably untrue fuel efficiency.

I *really* want to rig one up with a power differential steering, and independent braking and cruise around the tight streets of Europe.

What happens when an SUV hits you in this little toy car, I mean besides the obvious, that you die horribly.

I thought about getting one, but considering how easy this would be...

It could happen to any car, but people just need a lot less manpower now.

they sell them around 18000 CA$ (+- 15000 US) around here. This thing pretty much stump all the hybrid in fuel consumption test....but It's really small and I think it doesn't go beyond 70 MPH...

Actually it performed really good in crash tests. It has a special body sort of like a nascar setup.

"The smart fortwo features a tridion safety cell made of robust steel. At critical points, this cell is further reinforced with high-strength steel. The tridion, combined with the crash management system (crumple zones) and retention system, make the smart one of the safest small cars around.

A sandwich-type construction and raised seat position helps to ensure that passengers generally remain outside of the direct danger zone in a side impact. Crash boxes are located at the front and rear of the smart. Minor knocks have virtually no detrimental effect on the crash boxes and, in the event of a collision, they serve as additional crumple zones."

The Smart sports I think is really quite cool. But I'm reserving judgment on the Smart ForFour.

The hood is a foot long, and so is the trunk, or boot depending on where you live. so how is that a crumple zone?

Top speed on the Canadian ones is around 140km/h. So around 87.5mph.

I wouldn't mind getting one to commute in, but it would be pretty impractical for just about anything else. Also, I'd have to wear a mask while driving it so NOBODY COULD EVER FIND OUT.

I think I was going between 130 and 135, and the guy went by me like I was barely moving.
