Should I call in sick to work?

Pros

  • I have 3 assignments to finish for tomorrow.

  • It's monday.

  • It's a short shift, anyways.

  • I wouldn't have to go to work.

  • It would greatly increase the quality of my work in a course I paid $450 dollars for (and am taking a second time as I've already failed it).

Cons

  • I hate being irresponsible.

  • I've been bugging my boss for more work lately.

  • I need the money (since I had to shell out $450 for a course I've already taken but didn't get the credit for).

  • It's a competitive job, and would hurt my sales for the end of the month.

It's only one day right?

I'm going to edit and agree with Mr. Cigarette.

what does being someones boss have to do with just being responsible and respecting your job? i mean he could always just be honest with his boss and ask if it was ok for him to take time off to focus on his homework instead of lying and saying hes sick.. call me crazy but i just personally wouldnt want to jepordize my employment ...

Problem is I'm a photo student and need to shoot outside for these assignments... by the time I'm off work, It will be dark. I considered scrambling around before work and getting it done then, but I'd barely have any shooting time, plus I wouldn't be able to get it to and back from the lab.

If you're wondering why I didn't do the work earlier, it's summer class, which means a whole course crammed into two days a week, for three weeks. I need the days in class to use the darkroom. Yesterday was my day off, but it rained....

Uh oh, bad development... looks like my boss is calling to ask me to come in early! I'm not picking up the phone, but I've got caller ID. Looks like I won't be going in today, so should I answer it next time it rings and fake sick, or call later closer to my shift?

Hey, man, Canada should observe Memorial Day, too. You have any idea how good you guys have it, being next door neighbors to a superpower? We'd never let anything happen to you. Because that's just trouble for us. So take a minute, and reflect on the sacrifices made by American soldiers to keep Canada safe by association.

From the last post it sounds like you've already made up your mind about taking to day off and now are looking for the best way out of it.

They usually get Victoria Day off, which I believe was just last weekend, as well as quite a few other holidays, as it seems that there is a long weekend in almost every month, in B.C. atleast. (also I do not mean to turn this into an I hate Canada rant, I'm actually just jealous)

Me too. Get your ass to work like the rest of us pathetic corporate drones.

Actually, I think you should skip. I have never called in sick when I wasn't before, so come back and tell us all about it!! I live vicariously. (is that how you spell that?)

Agree to go in early today, so long as you can leave early (while it's light and you can get some shooting done).

Tell you what. I'll make you a deal.

You go to work, and I'll do your darkroom "work" for you. wink

But really, it seems that you had already made up your mind to stay home, and were looking for some good ol' internet justification to do so. Since we're all good, upstanding citizens here in cyberspace, you can trust us to lead you in the best possible direction.

Really.

What did you end up doing, regardless of the internet's advice?

I called the only other coworker who wasn't working and convinced her to come in on her day off. So I owe her one.
