...i was thanked, applauded, cheered on and adored. Children wanted to give me five and the elderly shook my hand. For 20min I was looked upon with wide eyes and awe. I was respected.

Now I’m back to being the tattooed jackass who plays the music in his car too loud and is probably just out to cause trouble.

I lead a double life I swear.

depends on what the parade was all about. If it was the Lame-O day parade, probably pretty lame. If it was for something else, maybe less lame. I need details here.

ok...it was a momorial day parade also in conjuntion with a big multi task race (bike ski run swin paddel) that goes on here. It's the biggest in the town and i was walking next to my districts fire truck in full gear waving and talking to people as we went. It was just a surreal experience for me.

i don't really understand the 'memorial day parade' thing. i mean, momorial day is to honor those who have fallen, yes? so, forgive me if this is rude, because it is, but when you're out there and people are celebrating you, don't you feel like they're being nice to you because they expect you to die soon?

i guess to me 'memorial day' seems like something that should be a little bit more subdued and not celebrated, perhaps.

We're celebrating their lives as much as mourning their deaths. Plus it's a great fucking excuse for a cookout.

Thats not really rude, at least I don't think it is.

I think we celebrate those that fight for our country or for the people in this country not because we think they're going to die but because we know they are going to do heroic things for other people with not a thought or care for themselves. Look at 9-11, how many fallen heros rose from that tragedy? Memorial day is to remember those that gave everything for everyone else and honor those may have to someday.
