NEWSWIRE

Gardner, MA

MAY 25, 2005 09:50 AM

A Charlotte, NC, woman called 911 20 times in a single night. Not because of an emergency...but to bitch because she couldn't get a pizza.

Dorothy Densmore, 86, was charged with two counts of misusing the 911 system.

She told dispatchers Sunday that a local pizza shop refused to deliver a pie to her south Charlotte apartment, said Officer Mandy Giannini. She also complained that someone at the shop called her a "crazy old coot," Giannini said.

But if you think calling 911 over a dozen times in less than half an hour is bad, she was also charged with resisting arrest(!!!)

Densmore wanted the employees of the pizza shop arrested, but instead got a police visit herself.

When an officer arrived at her apartment, the 5-foot-tall, 98-pound woman attacked him, Giannini said. Densmore scratched him, kicked and bit his hand, she said.

Word is local Chinese restaurants have started sliding menus under the door of her jail cell.

yes, it is (the expression)

I know that people could have been seriously hurt while this woman was clogging up 911, but....Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

Seriously, the woman is 86 and self-sufficient. Give her a warning, maybe a fine, and send her on home.

I wonder how many (because this is the international measure for crazy old coots) cats she owns?

I think we have different definitions of self-sufficient.

Jail would be silly but she's clearly in need of some "assistance." I hope the police officer was able to recognize what was up and didn't jack her up like a Florida 9-y/o or anything.

I work at a pizza place that closes early on sundays. Maybe I just have grown resentful and spiteful in my shitty job, my heart growing into a cold and empty shell, but personally I think the bitch got what she deserved.

I don't know how on earth she can call 911 20 times in a single night. I tried reporting a fire on my way to work one day and I've tried reporting several traffic accidents and all I get are "We're sorry, all 911 operators are currently busy...blah, blah, blah...call back later" Maybe the lines are jammed from people calling for pizza and testing their cell phones. mad mad mad

If it was me, I would've threw the old lady on the ground and maced the hell out of her. She's 86, not like shes got too much longer too live, besides how the hell did the biting hurt? She most likely has no teeth... bitch

I don't understand what goes on in a mind to connect pizza to 911, not often found in one thought together. Except maybe... help I think I've seriously burned the majority of my body with an overly microwaved pizza...or... I just saw two guys battle to the death over a pizza...or... There was a hit & run by a guy delivering a pizza... I guess they can go well in one thought.

I think this news tidbit validates nursing homes!

I work at a pizza place as well and I'm more than sure people don't know just how STUPID they sound on the phone. I would say that 1 out of 8 customers sounds like they actually used half a braincell before picking up the phone and calling us. I'm not exaggerating by the way, I'm being totally serious.

Luckily, this is endless amusement for all us who work there. You would not believe the stories I can tell!!! Sometimes customers can be awe inspiring!!! Oh and I get this lady (or a close variation) about 2-3 times a night.

I work at a pizza place, too. We get some very stupid people calling in.

One time, some lady called in, I figured that she lived in the delivery area of another Pizza Hut, so I told her so and offered to give her the number. She said yes, and *as I was giving it out*, she started dialing it. As in:

Me: 713...
Her: BEEEEEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEEP
Me: Uh....666...
Her: BEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEP BEEP
Me: ...................uh....6969
Her BEEEP BEEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEP
Me: ...........................*hangs up*

I don't know what she expected, but it clearly didn't happen. She apparently tried this multiple times with other people at our store, who just hung up on her after she started dialing while still on the phone.

I really think this lady took the cake as far as stupid people that I personally had to deal with there. Even as a five-year-old, I understood that you had to hang up the phone in order to dial a new number. This lady apparently missed that day in school.

can I cook a chicken overnight?

There's a massive problem in the UK with mobiles phones connecting to the emergency services. We have two numbers; the well known 999 and the less well known EU-harmonised 112. If a person locks their keypad they cannot dial any normal number, or 999, but they can dial 112. Most people don't know this. People lock their keypads and sit on their phones thus dialling 112, which connects them to the emrgency services and ties up the line. frown frown

this PDF has some numbers.

Wow, some of you people are really NICE about old people.

There is a condition where people make up things in order to recieve attention, maybe she suffered from it, or maybe she was lonely and wanted the human contact that the telephone brings... who knows.

Ah but then we get into the great discussion of when a personal condition becomes a public problem, and when an old lady should be loved in a nursing home.

So, Bingo?

This seems like a civil matter and ought to have been handled through the proper judicial channels, with the issuance of affidavits and things, rather than involving law enforcement. *sniff* Very cool that the old gal can still fight.
