Evidently, Burger King has been consumed by the Dark Side, and a religious conservative group wants to bring the king of the Whopper made your way, back into the fold.

The Dove Foundation is a non-profit organization established to encourage and promote the creation, production and distribution of wholesome family entertainment. The Foundation, free from commercial pressures, awards a blue and white Dove Seal to any movie or video that is rated "family-friendly" by its film review board.

The Foundation has its panties in a bind over Burger King's Kids Meals promotion of Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith and it wants the fast food giant to cut it out.

The Dove Foundation only awards its "family friendly" endorsement to "morally wholesome" feature films which are rated G or PG, and which espouse traditional "Judeo-Christian ethics." Episode III is rated PG-13. It justifies its stance to producers, distributors, and greasy fast-food joints by claiming that pictures rated G and PG tend to do better at the box office and on home video than more racy pictures.

Lucas' final installment took in an estimated $108 million at the box office over the weekend, earning it the second most succcessful opening weekend ever. The movie has made an estimated $158 million since it opened last Wednesday—the highest Wednesday through Sunday total ever.

NO ONE FUCKS WITH THE KING.

Seriously, I want to see a commercial with Vader and The BK defacing one of those seals.

This is weak. Seriously. So it's morally reprehensible to market sith to kiddies, but Empire would be okay cause it garnered a PG rating? As I recall, in Emprie, Han gets frozen into a giant brick, Luke's hand get's hacked off, and Vader basically bitchslaps the whole crew something fierce. I think that Sith is in no way any more racy or violent than Empire, or even Jedi (Leia in a metal bikini, Luke beating the snoth outta Vader). So for the Dove foundation to bitch and moan about this is silly. Did they even watch the film?

Like anyone cares about what the Dove foundation says anyway.

I would definitely say Revenge of the Sith is a bit "heavier" than the trilogy, and deserving of it's PG-13 rating. It is on the low PG-13 side though.

And I dont think anyone cares what the dove foundation thinks anyways.

I guess it is kind of stupid to market a children's meal using a film only people older than the meal's target demographic can watch.

but you don't agree with their basic premise, which seems to be to homogenize entertainment and simmer it down to only that which serves their worldview, right?

it says g and pg rated pictures in general...maybe it means, as a whole...because I would say the combined profits of all g and pg rated movies at least beat one star wars film...

at least they didn't blame burger king for drawing worship from the lord.

The same group, Dove Foundation, got McDonald's 13 years ago to apologize for "confusion" from its promotion of PG-13 Batman Returns with Happy Meals.

Apparently, Burger King cares what they say.
Or they did 13 years ago.

And BK's response?

Burger King officials insist the promotion isn't specific to the latest film (the others are rated PG), but one that relates to the chain's long-term relationship with the Star Wars franchise. Executives point out that only four of the 31 Kids Meal toys are specific to Sith.

The toys "clearly celebrate not just one film but the entire Star Wars saga," says Edna Johnson, a Burger King spokeswoman. "The reception at our restaurants and from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive."

But Dove ain't having it:

But Rolfe says "the tie-in is very specific to this film." Wrappers around Kids Meal toys all promote Sith, he notes.

Perhaps. But the wisdom of Burger King's marketing isn't really the issue. The issue is that groups like the Dove Foundation tend to misplace their "family values" muscle.

I have no beef with targeting Burger King, but I'd argue that if Dove was concerned about the well-being of the family, then it would be better served by speaking out about the ill health effects of fast food on growing children, rather than how a move with no sex; no swearing; and (for the most part) bubble-gum cartoon violence effects the youth of America.

And sith are real life bad guys that seek to destroy all of the Jedi in the galaxy and institute a reign of fear, anger, and aggression. Why aren't we banding together to aid these last remaining purveyors of the light side?

Let's not blow this out of proportion people. The argument here essentially breaks down to whether or not it's OK for Burger King to hand out Star Wars toys with their burgers. It's not as if they're strong arming BK into handing out bibles. Perhaps Dove isn't the only group that is getting up in arms about the wrong things....

It's week because the toys don't come in a "kids meal" like say a Happy Meal at McDonald's, you simply buy them one at a time or get two for a lower price with any "king sized" value meal....

Oh. I am over 12.

Their Paris Hilton yuk-fest commercial to sell meat has TV stations busting a gut to say - ON THE NEWS! - that it will only be shown after family hours.

I love the Burger King commercials as they are exceedingly weird and hip - but a bump here with Paris Hiton (washing a car or somesuch). -shiver-

I guess I don't find her...appealing?
