Answer: They've all given birth...

The three sisters from the same family have each given birth and the two younger sisters are still at high school. The Williams sisters, who live with their mother, Julie Atkins (38) in a council house in Derby are now part of a BBC documentary titled "Desperate Midwives: The real truth about childbirth".

Jemma (12) gave birth to baby T-Jay in February 2004 only for her other two sisters, Natasha (16) and Jade (14) to discover that they too were expecting a few weeks later.

Mrs Atkins has since told the Sun newspaper that she still finds it difficult to believe what has happened:

Mrs Atkins is however blaming the schools for providing poor quality sex education.

Two of the sisters are now no longer in contact with their children's fathers and Jemma is quoted in the Sun newspaper as saying:

It's been a rough week for those in charge of sex education in the UK, earlier this week they came under fire following a publicized report which found that many UK teenagers didn't even know how to use a Condom properly, a story that was covered here on the SG newswire

Desperate Midwives starts on Monday, 23 May, 2005 at 2100 BST on BBC3.

Good thing those parents aren't taking an interest in their childer and teaching their kids sex education, then they wouldn't be able to bitch.

If individual parents are too stupid to educate their children on these subjects, maybe it would be a good idea for schools to do it, otherwise we roll out another generation of idiots. Just a thought...

I mean, I agree that parents have to take responsibility for the issue and that this woman has failed at rasing sexually responsible children--she needs to accept that and try to improve. Education can't change her though, what it can change is the kids in school right now. Point is, the call for system wide reform isn't wrong just because she is.

It sounds like three little boys need to have a chunk of child support deducted from their milk money.

The UK has a scarily high rate of teenage pregnancy. I doubt that the UK's welfare structure encourages people to become teen mothers. Maybe it's just me but "an appointment with the department of work and pensions and then down the council to put me name on the list" isn't what I'm thinking about when I'm shagging.

Coincidences are usually meaningless but this case highlights what might be a worrying aspect of UK society. Very many young women are having unplanned pregnancies (and children), and these women are often vilified. The attitudes that some people display to teen-mothers can be shocking.

I didn't mean to imply that I don't think schools should teach a responsible and comprehensive sexual education class. And certainly these should be improved from their current state. I was merely responding to the parent's assertion that it was somehow the school's fault that her children were all pregnant. Responsibility for this lies ultimately on the parent. And three kids with babies: that's a trend.

I'm sure something like this has happened more than a few times in the US. I don't have the stats, but I think America has the market cornered on teenage pregnancy rates.

its true theres nothing to do in derby its half an hour from me, i get the mental image that there is goin to be swarm of babies come stampeeding in my town :S
