More bad publicity for Wal-mart comes from Evansville, Indiana, where a former employee faces felony charges for shooting a kitty. The judge reinstated the animal cruelty charge against Christopher S. Anderson, which had been dropped to a misdemeanor. The judge ruled Anderson could not be charged with a misdemeanor unless he had beaten the cat rather then shot it.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Anderson, 29, and another former store employee, Jeffrey Hardin, 21, on Dec. 28.
Anderson told investigators that he shot the cat with a pellet gun after the store manager ordered employees to get rid of the animal, which was living in a storage trailer behind the store on the city's east side.
The cat was wounded but survived, a sheriff's report said, and the next day Anderson and Hardin repeatedly shot the cat with a pellet gun until it died.

A truck driver said he saw store employees placing what the dead animal in shrink wrap a day after he heard workers joking about shooting the cat.

Prosecutors did not file charges against the Wal-Mart store as they said he had not ordered Anderson to kill the cat. Hardin's attorney says the charge against Hardin will be dropped, after he enters a pretrial diversion program. Part of the agreement requires Hardin to do community service work for the Humane Society or Evansville animal shelter, the attorney said.

In keeping with their company policy of throwing money at bad PR, Wal-Mart is planning to donate $10,000 to both of the area animal shelters. As a Wal-Mart employee myself, I can vouch that is says expressly in the policy manual "don't shoot neighborhood cats with our pellet guns."

Send him to prison and he can tell the other felons he's in for shooting a cat with a pellet gun. He'll be someone's bitch for sure.

So, you can't beat the animal, but it's ok to shoot it with a pellet gun and let it suffer for a day before finishing it off. It's horrible what people get away with on technicalities.

no, it said he would be charged for the felony of shooting it instead of the misdemeanor for beating it.

either way, it's just not right.

but it's all ok since wal-mart is now gonna donate money to the animal shelters.

what a effed up world.

Gotcha... that wording confused me a little. And again, it's just the Wal throwing money on a problem to make it go away... it's funny what you can cover up with a little green.

Wal-Mart is notorious for refusing to call animal control. I have no idea why. At my old store, there were birds who lived inside in receiving during the winter, and the managers finally got fed up. Their solution? Glue traps. I emailed the DNR about it, but I guess I should've emailed PETA, because nothing came of it.

You should feel bad for shoplifting anywhere. Stealing is stealing.
