Take a tip from Kikka or Mei and hold off on marring your fleshy canvas because before you know it, everyone you meet will have those same two sparrows on their chests or that "unique" tribal incantation on the smalls of their backs. Come on, y'all.

This sentiment annoys the fuck out of me. If someone is so concerned about having tattoos that no one else has, then don't get something that has been around forever (like sparrows) or is clearly widespread (like tribals). Get something because you fucking like it and want it on your body. Get over the elitism of tattoos and just enjoy it.

Sounds like you are in line for some heavy duty laser removal in the next 5 or 10 years.

tongue tongue tongue

Believe me, they all regret it sooner or later. If I've learned nothing else in my time, I've learned that ubiquitous tattoos will be objects of remorse at some point.

I'm not really sure what your point is. Do you not think that the people here that have tattoos knew what they were getting into? Why exactly do you feel the need to made the very broad statement that "they all regret it sooner or later"? What, did you get a bunch of tattoos that you now regret? It might not have occured to you, but some people don't base whether they like their tattoos on the idea that nobody else has that particular tattoo. whatever

these negative waves need trouble us no more. I think I may even get a butterfly on my hip, like my mom has.

I'm wondering what some of the beautiful "writing" tats on some of the girls in here on SG will look like in 5-10 years. The tiny lettering is gorgeous now, but how can you keep it from blurring eventually into unreadable blobs?

The lettering on one of my own tattoos (10 years old) is already blurred considerably. Not that I regret it.

I think you might have picked the wrong site to voice those views.

Maybe you want one of those Christian Conservative websites. Because they tend to talk down to people too, like they're children.

I went through a phase where I was going to have myself skin-arted and my uncle, who was more or less my legal guardian at that point, went berserk. "You are doing no such thing," and so on. I didn't, but jeez. It's like the people who love you want to own the property of the flesh.

On the other hand, I sort of like the idea of "owning the property of the flesh."

My tats aren't exactly original, but you know what? They have meaning. Not chosen because of the 'cool' factor, but because of a period of time I wanted to remember. Thorns for the 'penance' I served in the Navy. Still serving as a matter of fact. I fucked up my life and education, used the Navy to get back up. It's my penance to atone for past actions. My tribal sun? That's to remind me that I need to be out of doors, to see the great ball of fire that gives us life, to know that there is something good and great in this world that I want to look forward to seeing. That's why I have my tats. Don't think I'll grow to regret them.

And I'd like to thank you and your 28 years of wisdom to tell me what no one else has been enlightened enough to come up with before. Now kindly go get stuffed.

Oooh! Wait, can you, just real quick, tell me that the cigarettes I smoke are bad for me?

And maybe tell me that alcohol is a horrible thing that will eventually rot my liver. C'mon! Go for the hat trick of "Trust me, I know better than you" bullshit epiphonies...

Not to get all philosophical, but I would argue that if a tattoo is beautiful on you... even for a fleeting moment, then it would be worth it. Beauty is never going to last forever. Cherish and enjoy it while you can. If you're cherishing it by adorning your body with something aesthetically pleasing or meaningful in some way, then more power to you.

Who cares how it looks when you're 60? NO ONE. Because no one is likely going to be looking at you naked then anyway save yourself and (if you're lucky) a loved one.

My tats are markers for certain points in my life. My skin is a collage to my history.

And what will it look like when I am 60? It will look like my story and I don't see how that could be anything but beautiful.
