i had a really old copy of 'catch 22' fall apart on me after the first reading. of course i only paid 10 cents for it.
i have a feeling that 'love is a dog from hell' by bukowski will be next, only out of genuine me reading it so much and shoving it in dark, crampt places.....like my bookbag. yeah.

but even my soft covers are new looking. i HATE when the spine gets cracked.

if I were one to ruin books, they would be:

Slapstick by Kurt Vonnegut
Beloved by Toni Morrison
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

only Beloved has been somewhat ruined because I've had to take notes in it for classes. the other two I refuse even to dog-ear the pages because I love them so much they hurt me.

I used to hate the spine getting cracked or any sign of wear and tear but now I kinda like it- shows the book has gotten some loving. biggrin

i try to keep my books in pristine condition. my harry potter books are in heavy rotation as i wait for the new book to come out. i loaned my 4th HP book to someone once and witnessed them dog-earing the pages, i almost lost it. they suffered my wrath, and a day later i forced them to give it back to me.

i love my books. but not in the "Sex Talk" kind of way. smile

My floor is carpeted with comic books at almost any point in time. I make no effort to avoid stepping on them.

If I finish with a paperback novel and it still has a cover, then it must have been very well made.
