I went to see a movie last night, and that movie was House of Wax.

There is a scene where the main girl sticks her finger up through a sewer grate and this guy leans down and cuts the tip of it off with some sort of wire cutters. I burst out laughing, and then realized that I was the ONLY ONE LAUGHING, which just seemed to make it funnier.

As the movie went on, this continued to happen. Finally, as Paris Hilton (whom I had no idea who was, just thought she was a chick with a funny looking head) gets a metal pole driven through her head, not only was EVERYONE laughing, but they were cheering.

I started thinking about how often this happens. For instance, a year or two ago (I dont remember how long ago it was) I went to see a movie called the Passion of Christ. Some weird kind of foreign film, and I really was in no mood to read subtitles, so I just watched and tried to interpret. The best I could figure is that there was this guy with some strange personal issues who started trying to overthrow the government or something. They eventually catch and try him for treason... whatever. It seems like a pretty good flick, and I am glad they caught this bad guy because he seems like a jerk. I cheered when they were whipping him, to the dismay of the rest of the audience, who were mostly senior citizens, and when I shouted "Pound the Nails Deeper" I was actually asked to leave the theatre.

Well the point of this was to ask how often you find something hilarious and laugh a jovial laugh, only to realize that not only are you the only one laughing but that most people find your laughter to be in extremely bad taste.

Inappropriate laughter is the only kind worth having.

I was watching/half falling asleep to some entertainment show and they were talking about House of Wax. In the 4 minutes that I was watching, they gave away the anagonist, and Paris Hilton spoiled her death. I really don't plan on seeing this, so I could care less this time, but it's just one of those times that I wish the spoiler tags were usable in real life too.

I laugh at the wrong movies too. Like during Jurassic Park 2, after the T-rex eats the dog and he's standing there with the dog house hanging from a chain from his mouth, I almost lost it because all I could picture was that the T-rex was flossing with it.

Wow, a cynical athiest making fun of a mel gibson film? that's new...

Trying to be cool by pretending to not know who paris hilton is and act as though you weren't pleased as punch to see her impaled? where can I get your sense of style?

Absolutely. Cringing is the only appropriate response.

exactly. if you're gonna laugh during a movie... make sure it's something like 'irreversible.' or... maybe... the end of 'bambi.'

Irreversible = comedic goldmine.

I often do this as well. That's why dark humor has such a strong following. Lots of people like to laugh inappropriately

My friend and I laughed in Underworld when the bad vampire dude gets his head diagonally sliced open. People turned around to stare at us. And we continued to laugh. The only frigging enjoyment from that dog-ass flick, aside from seeing the Kate be all Goth and naughty-looking.

I went to see the movie Kalifornia with some friends once. By the end, we had all decided this movie sucked so badly that we were giving it the full MST3K treatment and laughing our asses off. I'm sure other people in the audience thought we were assholes, but fuck them if they couldn't see what crap this movie was.
