Shane Carruth rocked the 2004 Sundance Film Festival when his $7000 directorial debut Primer won the Grand Jury Prize over such films as Garden State, Maria Full of Grace and Napoleon Dynamite. But it was accolades well deserved because Primer is one of the most brilliant and complex films to come out of America in many a year. Primer is the story of a small group of men who when attempting to make a breakthrough in error-checking devices instead make a breakthrough in time travel. Soon one of them...

Nice interview.

I actually didn't get to catch 'Primer' in theaters, but I rented it last week and watched it twice straight through. I'm buying it. It's damn good.

Christ alfuckingmighty, Primer is amazing. Seriously, all these people saying BUY IT are right! It will help make Carruth famous as all fuck and there is no way you cannot watch the movie twice. It SCREAMS to be watched about 80 times!

Shane's awesome. I met him last June at the Waterfront Film Festival and he is quite an interesting guy. Hopefully we get to see more from this talented film maker soon! smile

Well done. I've been burning and sending this flick out to friends for months. Hell, I even ran into David Sullivan at the Formosa Cafe and he said it was just fine to do so until the DVDs came out.

Can’t wait to see what you have lined up next for us, Shane. Thanks for the mind fuck.

i rented it thinking i'd seen everything else of interest at blockbuster [ie. not much]

i was amazed, as everyone else here. i played it for the girl i was seeing at the time and she hated it. i thought she was dumb beforehand, and i was right.

It's very, VERY heady, and there are meny things in the film that could stand to have at least some sort of explanation, but as they say in the interview, there is none. The characters don't really explain ANYTHING.
Don't worry, I'm sure there are PLENTY of people who didn't understand most of Primer.

That being said, I loved it. I'm actually quite happy I caught this interview, because I saw the film only 3 days ago, after having it recommended to me without any real description of what it was, and I loved it. Thanks for the quality interview, as usual.

My roommate and I watched it three times in one night, then spent several hours discussing it over several bottles of wine, skipping back and forth between sections to dissect what was going on. Awesome movie.

What a great movie! Glad I wasn't the only one that watched more than once. I'm glad a movie like this can get made. I liked that it cost $7,000 & it is better than most movies that cost millions of dollars. Way to go Shane!

Great interview DRE!

I really really need to buy this, watch it again.
I must say I didn't grasp it, making me feel
rather stupid, but I was at least being
mesmerized by it. My brother and friend
in the room knew it and would frequently
make looks at each other. Maybe I
was distracted by that? or led me to different,
misleading thoughts? Or maybe I'm just stupider than I thought.
Regardless, I must buy this movie.
