I'm agnostic since no one really knows the absolute reality of our universe, but for most intents and purposes, I'm atheist. The distinction being - I don't know if God exists or not, but I'm pretty damned sure your God doesn't exist. wink

Agnostic.

On the grounds of the impossibility of something coming from nothing. For the uninitiated:
Either it was the Universe or God. The other option is that one of the deuce as simply 'always been'. Neither option is any more or less sensible than the alternative, so I simply wash my hands of the whole silly argument.

However (there’s always a however), I am very skeptical of much oh human-based faith. I am weary of all but the fairly abstract views of god, or spirit, or whatever. But if it makes YOU happy, rock on. Just not my bag of chips.

I was raised Catholic, but once the whole masturbation thing started working so well for me, I realized I couldn't pretend to be a Catholic while whacking it every night, and plotting on having lots of recreational sex and stuff. Plus I love saying "Goddamn" and "Jesus Hot Doggin' Christ!"

So I'm just a dude.

I do kinda think there's a God though, but I don't understand why people get all territorial about THEIR god.

Nice....
I was born Methodist and have my views about religion and lack of. It's just that though, my views. I'm confused about a lot of things. Man is known to lie and make things up, like religion. So I've always wondered whose is made up?

Nihilism has a restraining order against me, and statements like that are under 100 yards away.

Thinking like that is hardly producive.

Uhhh... How is that nihilistic? I think it's ludicrously anthropocentric to assume that we can comprehend everything in the universe. I think it's quite likely that our comprehension of the universe as a whole has limits based on our brain capacities. This applies to every other animal on the planet, why wouldn't it apply to us?

Religion is something invented by man to serve his own needs. Most people are natural followers, and they find comfort in being told how to act, what to believe, etc. It takes a large burden of responsibility off of them.

I was raised in the Christian reigion, and believe in it. I have serious beef with the narrow minded attitude in the church that turns most people away from the religion. Christianity would be great if it wasn't for most Christians. The basic fundamentals of the religion wants you to be a good person, don't kill, steal, judge, lie, or envy. I don't see what's so wrong with wanting to live your life that way. I DO see a problem with judging someone for not wanting to believe what you do. I believe everybody has a right to their own beliefs, and I wouldn't dream of telling someone what they believe is wrong. I feel whatever you experience as reality is reality for you. So don't worry, you won't hear any sermons from me, I'm sure you've heard enough from the psycho judgmental assholes that give what I believe in a bad name. I have friends who are atheists, Bhuddists, and Jewish. We get along just fine respecting each other's beliefs.

Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days....

Aw, nevermind.smile

I'm an agnostic. And I agree in spirit with the definition proffered by PRockGirlScout and Idjit. Clarence Darrow (I believe) once defined agnosticism as something to the effect of: "I do not pretend to know what many ignorant men are sure of."

That's pretty much how I feel (minus the negative connotations of "ignorant")

I'm Catholic, and even though I don't do Catholic things anymore, I would still call myself that. However, I am starting to drift away from that "kind, merciful and loving God" to one of an "uncaring God who enjoys watching us suffer and kill each other for his own amusement."
