Now... does anyone HAVE one? I'm not normally a gadget freak but I saw one and they look like electric sex. All shiny and black and where you might plug in your deck if you were in Snow Crash...

I love Sony, they fill the world with meaningless expensive crap that I have to have (that I had the money...)... Ridge Racer looks fab... and I've already seen a release of saosin's Sin City for it.

yarr ARRR!!!

I got one the day it came out and it's the coolest gadget I've owned. Better than my iPod. If you look at this thread you'll see I was able to browse the web and hit SG. smile I also encoded some video, plugged the PSP into my mac and was able to transfer and watch the video on my PSP.

I find it amusing that you lust over Sony's crap, but you scoff at Apple's far superior industrial design.

Find the term "Sony Evengelist" somewhere, and then come back to me.

It's not Apple the interface / style that I hate, and especially not their design style (except for the cube, which was a blatant throwback to the NeXT for no reason). It's the same attitude that lies with "Install Firefox! Problem Solved."

Also, I don't like electronics that come with a 'life philosophy'.... more psp:

I got one as a gift the day it came out, now I am addicted to Twisted Metal, and Tony Hawk, oh and I watch The Lost Boys on it like crazy, since it is the only movie I stole and but on my memory card.

If I could afford it, I'd get one. I'd love to take stuff from my Tivo and put it on the PSP. There are a few games I really want to play, especially Twisted Metal and Lumines.

I'd probably eventually get one if it looked to have more original franchises than just stuff I can already get on my PS2.

Like, a Team Ico original game... that would be sweet...

Are there other ways of playing movies than off of a memory card? I hear the new memory sticks are expensive.

Will it play mini-DVDs??

i love mine and have been obsessed with it for a month.

ridge racer is pure crack and has a nice soundtrack you'd appreciate. good, original breaks/dance stuff. wipeout pure and lumines are both amazing as well, and they have great soundtracks, too.

and the memory sticks it uses are expensive - $100 is likely the cheapest you'll find a 1GB. but 2GB sticks are coming out very soon which should drive prices down a bit.

i watch aqua teens on mine, and play lumines & twisted metal. i haven't really touched metal gear acid yet. it's cool, but it doesn't own me.

and sony doesn't plan on releasing blank UMD discs to burn movies on.. they should, but it probably won't happen.

I dunno I think Kutaragi can give Jobs a run for the title of CEO Most Full of His Company.

In response to PSP Square buttons not working properly:

“The button’s location is [architectured] on purpose,” Kutaragi added. “It’s according to specifications. This is something that we’ve created, and this is our specification. There was a clear purpose to it, and it wasn’t a mistake.”

Offering additional testimony praising the handheld, Kutaragi said, “I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect’s blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It’s the same as that.”

And they did call a fucking graphics processor an Emotion Engine. That's gotta make the short list of all-time great marketing BS.
