"Shouting lager lager lager lager", that's young women in the UK.

Market analyst Datamonitor [...] predicts [women aged between 18 and 24 in the UK] will be drinking 291 litres a year by 2009 - the equivalent of about three large glasses of wine a day - up from 216 litres in 2004.

It would mean alcohol consumption among young women had doubled in a decade and they would be drinking more than men.

Previous studies have shown the rate of female drinking is increasing more quickly than men with female teenagers already outstripping boys

291 litres is about 9858 US fluid ounces, or about 616 US pints.

Well judging by the amount of em young 'uns of the female type lying in various gutters, shop windows, hanging from their friends and falling over alot most nights, I'd not argue with that report tongue

Eh. That's only 1.69 pints a day. That's peanuts.

UK goverment advice for safe limits are 21 units per week for men and 14 for women. 1 unit is half a pint of normal strength lager, so 1 pint of normal strength lager a day is the safe limit for women. UK government advice is also to leave some days free of drink, and not to binge.

Don't forget that this is an average, so some people are drinking way more than that.

Also, many 18 - 24 year olds are going to be at Uni, so where are they getting the money from? £1.50 per UK pint * 616 US pints = about £924 per year. £1.50 is cheap for a UK pint, I usually pay about £2.40

Standardizing how much everyone is supposed to drink has always seemed like a pointless endeavour to me, which is probably why so many people don't pay any attention to it. Body weight and metabolism are what it's about and there are too many variations on the theme for standards to apply.

A part of me wishes I was the type of guy to take advantage of beer-sodden wenches; but then, I don't much care for the taste of beer, so I don't see myself kissing the flavour anyway.

And statistically they'll be drinking 450 by 2090....

Or maybe it just reflects changes in society etc, and will level off.

Remember also that this is pints of WINE, which is about twice as strong as beer.

I thought they changed that to 28 for men, 21 for women a few years back? Or did they change their mind?

They kept it quiet because of all the binge drinking stuff.

I wonder if its because girls don't get the 'guy warning' of not being able to get a hardon and freaking out and teetotaling for a week or two.
