We all, at one point, have owned a piece of shit car. Mine was a day-glo orange 1976 Honda Civic that looked like a pregnant roller-skate from Xanadu. Friends of mine knew that I would take a Howitzer to that motherfucker if given the chance. But one man fulfilled the dreams of everyone that wanted to strap a bar of C4 to the drive-line: he killed his car.

Fed up with his troublesome car, a Florida man fired five rounds from a semi-automatic pistol into the hood of the 1994 Chrysler LeBaron.

"I'm putting my car out of its misery," 64-year-old John McGivney said after the incident outside an apartment building in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, according to a police report that listed the car as "deceased."

McGivney surrendered to police, was jailed on a firearms charge on Friday and released on bond a day later. He told them the car had been giving him trouble for years.

"I think every guy in the universe has wanted to do it," the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Wednesday quoted McGivney as saying. "It was worth every damn minute in that jail."

McGivney, I salute you.

So, this dude goes to jail, but all the hillbillies who put a few dozen bullet holes in their pick-up truck tailgates get to drive around and show off their craftsmanship.

Life ain't fair.

(Glad someone else mentioned the Richard Pryor thing- first thing I thought of when reading the article...)

I dont know if you get this anywhere but in Australia, but the kids these days like to put stickers or decals of bullet holes on their shiny new cars. I feel sorry for the parents who sometimes obviously own the cars but just go along with it. I almost piss myself laughing when i see it... they must think they are Ganstas....

here we call them rednecks, as they're usually on the back of shitty pickup trucks.

My first car was a Chrysler Plymouth Horizon. A tiny little car with the turning radius of a fucking semi. Problems, problems, problems. I never had the satisfaction of killing it myself, because it was totaled in a car accident. This guy hit me up by the wheel on the passenger side so hard that his front license plate was permanently stuck to the side door. blackeyed

Had an 83 Escort that was loyal to me. It died on me twice (I think the first time was just practice), but both times, it should have died on the highway, stranding me, but instead clung to life long enough to get me to a place where I could find a phone.

First time it died, I was cruising along the highway to work, and it began to sputter out. Somehow, it managed to carry me to my exit, and another quarter mile to stop right in front of a truck depot where my neighbor's dad just happened to be working at the time. Got a phone, got a ride home and got out of work that evening. Which was all good since I was supposed to train this crackhead they'd just hired.

After it was repaired, it died again about eight months later, again, on the highway in the dead of night. It managed to carry me several more miles to the driveway of my girlfriend's house (which was where I was going anyway), where it died for good this time. I was upset until my girlfriend comforted me by bestowing sweet lovin' upon me. The next day, I thanked my Escort and said my goodbyes to it.

It was always looking out for me...

Has anyone else seen that video floating around the net where some guys catapulted their car across a field? I forgot where I found it... might try to find the link again later. This reminded me of it.

I used to have a 91 Civic, the shittiest car known to man. One time the tire blew out in the middle of the DC beltway and the thing spun into the path of an oncoming semi. Thank god the driver of said semi knew how to drive or I'd be dead. During the same trip I wound up having to tape one of the windows closed and one of the headlights into the car with duct tape.
