do they really? Ick! Although for those of here in the bay area, supporting netflix is supporting a local buisness as well, a win win situation if you ask me. smile

Oh, man. I lived on the side of an only semi-remote mountain for a while. It's horrible. I wish I'd had Netflix when I lived there because I really, really love it.

Especially since I've been a member of SG, I've been exposed to a lot of different genres and types of movies- movies I would to see but that are next to impossible to get. I've been putting off netflix and blockbuster online because of money but now I just think it would be stupid not to.

Netflix is great. I use it mostly for TV series that I never watched.

That's some kind of urban myth. I haven't experienced that at all. Though, the stores only carry r-rated versions of movies that have unrated versions (with some exceptions), if that's what you mean by blockbuster editing movies. But that's not true for blockbuster online.

Doesn't seem worth it if you don't live on the West Coast.

Definatly not. I joined for about month basically to watch a few movies they carry that none of the other online DVD rental sites carried that I'd been dying to see. It took about a week, sometimes more, to receive my rentals.

I tried Blockbuster first and then after my free period was up I switched to NetFlix. I haven't been happier. The wait time with Blockbuster was insane. Most anything worth watching had a "short wait" which meant at least a week or two until they were available to me. I've gotten everything right away with NetFlix and I haven't ran into a single wait period yet. Go with NetFlix.

Not only that, but saying Blockbuster edits the movies themselves is sort of misleading. Blockbuster only carries the edited versions, just like Wal-Mart only carries edited CDs. They don't have anything to do with the editing process, or deciding exactly what is edited.

Netflix is brilliant!
Blockbuster is a corporate machine that needs to be stopped.
I would for sure recomend netflix. You just need to plan ahead with them. If you want a movie right away it's no good. But if you want the movie the next day it is perfect. smile

I love Netflix, though there are a few movies that I wanted that they don't have:
Medea
Our Town
Pierrot Le Fou
The Mahabharata
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

That's out of a Queue of 300 or so DVD's.

But they do have weird stuff like Left Behind: the Movie, most of Fassbinder's movies, Km. 0, 101 Reykjavik, a bunch of Troma, Battle Royale, Un Chien Andalou... I don't know how that compares to Blockbuster... but there ya go.

Cigarette Un Chien Andalou...

Got me a movie
I want you to know
Slicing up eyeballs
I want you to know
Girlie so groovy
I want you to know
Don't know about you
But I am un chien Andalusia

I have had Netflix for about a month and I am happy with it thus far. The selection is very impressive and turnaround time is great. I love waiting for and getting stuff in the mail, so this keeps me in a constant state of postal arousal. The cost to benefit ratio is great too. I have received 11 movies in April so far. Even if I don't get any more, 11 for $18 is a good deal.

My only minor complaint has to do with the condition of the discs. At least half of the movies I have had were glitchy due to scratches, fingerprints, goo and insects on the surface. Obviously this is not Netflix's fault per se, but it can still be annoying. Though to be fair, it's a much better track record than my local Blockbuster where 7 of the last 10 movies I rented were not just glitchy, but unwatchable.

I realize this is considered an unavoidable problem, but I'll never understand why it's so hard for people to understand how to not screw up their DVDs/CDs.

Thank you

I was a Netflix user for about a year before switching over to Blockbuster when they first starting offering online rentals. The only reason for my switch was that Blockbuster offered the two free instore rentals, which could be used for game rentals. Being the gaming freak that I am, and the movie freak, I figured it was the best of both worlds for me, so I cancelled my Gamefly subscription and Netflix and have been with Blockbuster since Sept. '04. I complained about the slow turn-over rate to them for the first mth I used them and since have not had to pay any charges for my Blockbuster account, which is just another reason why I'm going to stick with Blockbuster for now. Free Movie rentals online till May '06!!! It pays to be nice when complaining I suppose biggrin
