My boy Einstein's miracle year was 100 years ago. In 1905, he published papers on Brownian motion, the photoelectric effect, diffusion, and special relativity.

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity
-- Albert Einstein

CNN has a nice article covering the legacy of his ideas. It also adds a bit of a personal side to the brilliant scientist, discussing his personal life and relations with women.

Einstein wasn't just the father of modern physics, he also held that mantle for pimpology.

We must remember that study in pimpology is not easy, but it is necessary.

He was actually sort of a jerk in real life.

He abandoned his wife and kids early on in life.

Well, it didn't help that he was probably mildly autistic. That doesn't exactly help one in social situations.

"The physicists say that I am a mathematician, and the mathematicians say that I am a physicist," he said. "I am a completely isolated man and though everybody knows me, there are very few people who really know me."

Brownian motion kicks fucking ass! Seriously. The idea of diffusion as a random walk of particles is pure genius.

According to his exclusive audio diary which can only be found on Upright Citizens Brigade, he masturbated too frequently and was ashamed of this fact. He was also mad when all the other professors ate his food and didn't buy any to replace it.

I know it's cliched, but if there was one person from the past I could meet/have dinner with, it would without a doubt be Einstein for me. Great man. We would not be where we are today without him.

now a days he would have developed a massive coke habit, and come up with a way to smoke pot when it's wet. I'm sure of it.

I remember the first time a professor explained random walk...

"So imagine your buddy is drunk... and he can't tell left from right... and takes constant one meter steps... how long does it take him to get 1 mile away from the bar?"

Yeah, I was just going to say the same thing:

He never learned to drive. He would walk home from his office at Princeton University, sockless and submerged in the pursuit of the "eternal riddle," letting his umbrella rattle against the bars of an iron fence. If his umbrella skipped a bar, he would go back to the beginning of the fence and start over.

Sounds pretty similar to autism or OCD to me.

He ... developed attachments to several women who shared his love of music, sailing and world affairs.

One was an alleged Soviet spy, Margarita Konenkova, a Russian Demigr De married to a Greenwich Village sculptor.

Has anyone ever come accross the term "Demigr De" before? I can't find it in any dictionary, and there are only a few uses on the web. Seems to mean something like "person not living in their native land". Any ideas?
