So some delightful person hacked my Paypal account and proceeded to spend about $800 on lots of lovely treats, at my expense. Seeing as I can barely afford to eat at the moment I am feeling more than a little worried about it.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any advice?

I logged the transactions as fraud with Paypal, cancelled my cards with the bank, changed my security etc I am just really scared they will try and make me pay for all this shit. The asshat sent me an email saying 'thanks for sorting me out' so obviously I forwarded them the address it came from. What should I do now?

I got $6,000 hacked from my account and it took two months to get the $$ back . Paypal sucks. Stay on them and threaten to take them to court. I do not know the banking laws in the UK but here in the states I went to the court house and the sheriffs office and that started some action.

Jesus christ. Wankers.
I doubt you'll have to pay for any of it..and i'm sure they'll understand if you explain.

Yea you won't have to pay for any of it. Sorry about that, maybe your bank will help you out a little bit also.

Contact your card company. You're not liable for fraudulent transactions if you have the card in your posession.

You'll have better luck with your card company than with Paypal. They're nearly as useless as eBay with their piss-poor customer support.

It's bad, bad, bad, but this is the first thing I thought of, too.

It's a raw deal you've got there, Charley, but I agree that it sounds like you've done pretty much all you can do. I'm sure paypal has a reimbursement policy for situations like this one.

Hope it all works out.

Just happened to me earlier this month. The guy was a moron and couldn't have spent more than $150 at my expense, and only two of the charges went through because the other companies could tell it was fraud. I called Paypal and they e-mailed me an affidavit on which I listed all the fraudulent charges. I just checked, they've reversed the charges.

Guess I got off easy.

Aw shit, I'm so sorry. I had identity theft a while back. My bank refunded everything. I would hope that Paypal would do the same. It's their fault if someone hacked your account. They should have better security. I'm sure it'll all work out.

I don't know about paypal but I do know that credit card companies can NOT make you pay for fraudulent use of your card, even though they try it on.

CAB give free legal advice, but I guess they might not know so much about Paypal.

American guy "acquired" my sis' credit card to pay his tuition fees. Either a dumbass, or someone trying to frame someone else (I suspect the latter, in your case too...) for stealing her money.

CC company sorted it. Never heard what happened to the "thief"...

Paypal is actually unregulated. It is not a bank and not a credit card company and does not fall under any banking regulations. I got ripped off last year and I understand that thier fraud refund works better. They have had very serious faud problems in the past and it was hard to arrest the hackers as it was in a legal grey area.
