...they hook up and produce a wholphin. And yes, "wholphin" is apparently a real word.

The only whale-dolphin mix in captivity has given birth to a playful female calf, officials at Sea Life Park Hawaii said Thursday.

The calf was born on December 23 to Kekaimalu, a mix of a false killer whale and an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. Park officials said they waited to announce the birth until now because of recent changes in ownership and operations at the park.

Kekaimalu's parents are a 14-foot, 2,000-pound false killer whale and a 6-foot, 400-pound dolphin. In a Brad-and-Angelina or Ben-and-Jennifer kind of relationship, the whale and dolphin had starring roles in Sea Life Park's water show.

Kekaimalu's yet-unnamed calf is already the size of a year-old bottlenose dolphin.

Park researchers suspect the wholphin's father is a 15-foot long Atlantic bottlenose dolphin named Mikioi.

"He seems to be totally oblivious to this happening," Lenzi said.

Park officials plan to name the calf soon and put her in the large display tank within a few months.

I thought killer whales were actually dolphins, scientifically speaking. So says my recent issue of National Geographic with a huge feature on killer whales.

This just goes to show that it's not the size of the dolphin, it's all the motion of the ocea...sea life park... Or maybe it's just that marine mammals are horny.

they are, the killer whale or orca is the largest of the dolphin species.
i have no idea what a false killer whale is though, never heard of that one so perhaps it's a whale that looks like a orca.

even then, quite amazing that a 30 foot orca manages to mate with a 9 ft dolphin.
