There's a whole message board full of freaks just like you.

http://www.icechewing.com/

Is it just me, or is there a community for just about everything these days?

"I chew ice!"

"I found out I'm anaemic and I don't chew ice anymore!"

That's basically what I've got out of it so far.

What I want to know, is why/how the hell did you come across this shit?

Coming from a woman who browses the web for Harry Potter fanfiction, I know it shouldn't be that surprising.. but still. What the fuck kind of google search were you doing to just happen across this site?

"I have been addicted to ice two times in my life. Right now I am going through some of my worst cravings. I try to hide it from my husband and other members of my family just because it seems so silly. Unfortunatly my two year old loves ice too. It's what I think about first thing in the morning, all day, and when I go to bed. I also have favorite pieces of ice. I like only the ones that drop from the back of my ice maker. I also love ice that has been sitting in an insulated mug of ice tea. "

This site is awesome. It's like AA/NA for people who can't think up anything good to become addicted to.

Dude, my mom was wicked addicted to crunching ice. She got into a car crash, a bad one, and as a sort of nervous habbit, she had to chew on ice whenever she was in a car driving. Took her like 4-5 years to get over it. She even filled the ice trays just half way to make a more chewable ice cube. It started rubbing off on me too, I started getting glasses of ice cubes to chew on. But oh no, apparently it was bad for my teeth.

What about putting on heavy socks and a sweater on a warm day complete with fingerless gloves and rocking the ice? It prevents the extreme cold felt after devouring ice. Really cool feeling afterwards.

What.

I was googling about the connection between iron deficiency and crunching ice. I have been crunching a lot of ice in the last month, I wanted to know if there was any truth to the rumours. And I guess there is? Time for me to up my spinach intake!!!

Oh, and I don't browse the web for HP FF, I know where it is already. biggrin

Iron definciencies aren't the only things that cause people to become "addicted" to chewing ice. I did it obsessively for about 5 years, right after I started dialysis. Apparently it's common for people who go on dialysis to find weird new things to chew on, like chalk. No one ever told me why though. My guess would be it's related to stress.

I think there are web communities to discuss web communities....

And on the water front (lol), I love how mass market paranoia has gotten us all (including the indie hipster types who avoid all things corporate) to buy into the hype that the water supply is poisonous. I don't think I've seen a single bit of factual evidence to support that the public supply is more polluted than it was in years past (the reality is that it's cleaner than it ever was), yet people still shell out all sorts of cash for bottled water. And better still, people are paying very high premiums to get trendier brands. I don't doubt that the stuff tastes good, it's just an interesting thing to watch...

One time I was looking up honeycombs or something on google and I found a forum where people were talking about having a fear of cluster type things like: honeycombs, cells, a bunch of pipes... and even swiss cheese. I have never heard of anything like this.....
I think this is it.

All that said, I crunch ice a lot. Never knew there were web communities for it. Do you think they gather a la SG prom to hang out and crunch ice together? Are there places where one is not free to crunch ice as they please? Is it considered a crime against the state in some foreign lands?
