If you aren't allowed to call 911 and tell jokes, the people answering the phones shouldn't try to be comedians.

And those of you condemming the mother for calling 911 for help with dealing with her daughter should remember this story the next time you hear about some mother losing her shit and beating her kid.

Thank you. She was calling for help. Its seems so convenient for all these people criticizing to say 'oh control your kid' but what if the mother was truly afraid of losing control and hurting her child? Isnt that valid cause? What if the child is very violent and is a berserker when angry? (Ive seen it- its fucking scary to see a 12 year old being restrained by 5 older teenagers and so crazed with insane fury that you know if those teenagers let go someones gonna get hurt badly).
All these people who dont have kids and havent experienced the things that can happen should shut the hell up. That Dispatcher was out of line.

that said, the mother clearly needs a better handle on her kid (i.e., better parenting) , and shouldn't have had to call 911 to get it.

Yeah, but the fire department (usually) doesn't say, "Burn, baby, burn" when you call and tell them your house burnt down because you didn't have a fire extinguisher. It's not their job to respond to emergencies, regardless of who caused the emergency how. The cops, after they've defused the situation, are free to call family services or whathaveyou, sure, but we all merit equal protection under the law.

This is why I'll never get that job. I agree with the fact that a person in that position should actually remain professional at all times but damn that was funny and I'd've doen the same thing.

Agreed.

I'll admit I think the joke was kind of amusing but there are some jobs where you should just keep shit like that quiet. It's inappropriate and terribly unprofessional.

Bingo! I can't believe some woman called 911 because her daughters were fighting. So what, let them fight. I honestly believe that if you raise your kids right these types of things don't happen. However, siblings fight... thats life. If they get to big, buy a bat or a stun gun. There are plenty of good ways to handle kids wink Personaly... I think the joke is funny. biggrin Thankfully I should never have this problem... my kids will get an old school whippin if they kicks a hole in my door.

My thoughts exactly. Frankly, I'm appalled at the lazy bad parent/simply control your child comments.

Yeah, but you're not a (presumably) small, (presumably) single woman raising two girls. If she could hit her kids with a bat, one would presume they could do it right back.

Having been a bad parent in the past does not excuse someone from dereliction of duty as a civil servant and emergency service respondent. Judging an emergency situation as laughable from a thirty second exchange strikes me as a rather frightening prospect.

Out of interest, of all the people saying helpful things like 'control your kid', have you ever experienced children with intense EBD (Emotional and Behavioral Disturbances)? They can fly into rages for little or no reason or provocation, and be literally intent on killing, with no possibility of reasoning. They can hospitalise several adults, not leastly because the adults are attempting to restrain them rather than hurt a child who isn't necessarily aware of their actions. And if you were dealing with such a case, panicking and fearing for someone's life, and you called for help, would you really want someone making wise cracks about it?

Buy a bat or a stun gun???!!
Tell ya what. How about we go find a 'kid control' weapon for you, for when YOU have kids, and you get to stand there while I try em all out on you, one at a time? We can even get into brass knuckles, bb guns, blackjacks, the ol' 'rock in a sock', and a pointy steel toed boot as well . Then, YOU can decide which you like best!!

That is, if youre not blubbering in senseless castrated heap on the floor.

Just trying to be helpful! smile smile smile

I work at a call center...granted not a 911 call center...sarcasm...and jokes. They just don't fly over the phone like in real life. The officer should've been a professional and kept smart remarks to himslef and the woman should've kept control of her kid. Period.

All of you people saying she should learn to control her kid are assholes. I hope someday you're mauled and murdered by twelve year olds and everyone who could help just stands around laughing.

hey folks we don't know the whole story.for those of you without kids whats better ,a 911 cause you beat the child and now thier not breathing? or a call for help ? perhaps the only way she could get her kid to respond was to threaten with calling the cops and the kid called her bluff?sometimes things get out of control . lets think before we react and judge . my opinion.

Our best friend's 12 year old daughter went to a small party at a neighbor's house last summer. Two of the 12 year olds that were there got in a fight in the kitchen, while the chaperone was in the bathroom, and one of them stabbed the other through the neck - all the way through the neck - with a screwdriver.

By the time I was 12, I was a 6' tall football player. My mom was also 6' tall, but I outweighed her by a good 40 pounds. If I'd flipped out to the point of kicking holes through doors, there wouldn't have been shit she could have done about it.

There are plenty of bad parents in the world, but that doesn't mean that every parent that calls for help is a bad one.
