A Wautega, TX woman was less than impressed when 911 dispatcher Mike Forbess asked if she wanted someone to come over and a shoot her unruly daughter.
She called 911 and asked for help. Her 12-year-old daughter was out of control, she told the call-taker.
"OK. Do you want us to come over to shoot her?" the dispatcher asked, according to a recording released this week. For five seconds, the line went dead.
The dispatcher apologized for his "joke", but the woman insisted on taking his name so that she could report his actions to his supervisor, since it was all recorded on the 911 tape. The supervisor wasn't amused:
"This type of response cannot be tolerated, and this letter shall serve as notice that any future unprofessional responses while answering the 911 line will be cause for termination," Police Chief David Van Laar wrote to Forbess.
I dunno, I think it's funny. Obviously, we don't have (so many) guns over here and I don't have an unruly 12 year old daughter kicking holes in doors, but it could be seen as a sympathetic "I know how tough it is to be a parent sometimes" kind of remark.
I think it's a thoroughly understandable sarcastic comment since you shouldn't really be calling the police to sort out your daughter's behaviour. Do some fucking parenting and shut the hell up.
considering that it was a complete idiot phoning in because she couldn't handle her kid in the first place (probably due to lazy crap parenting) i don't even think it was inappropriate.
why give a proffesional answer to a idiot wasting valuable time and resources, being rude and telling her to piss off would be quite reasonable considering someone else might be bleeding to death and unable to get through because of that daft tart in a worst case scenario.
Yeah, but 911 is reserved for emergencies. If I call 911, I expect the motherfucker on the other end to treat it like a goddamned emergency. Though to be fair, I think the guy knew the moment that it came out of his mouth that it was stupid and inconsiderate and irresponsible. But it was certainly uncalled for and I think the woman was entirely justified in her reaction.
The scary thing is that this happened in Texas, which leads the nation in executions. The woman may have been confused and thought the dispatcher was serious. I hear you can be executed for anything there. Too bad you can't be shot for having no sense of humor.

I am sure he did treat it like an emergency until it was discovered that this was just a lousy lazy ass parent who probably raised the kid with the VCR nanny and now has to take some responsibility.
was the situation an emergency? not in my opinion. one of the biggest problems right now is that we as a society (well not all of us but alot) have a tendency to push our problems to someone else and not deal with it.
the police are for protection not to handle your every problem with your child.
What kind of a woman is this if she calls 911 over her stupid 12 year old daughter? Control you're kids!
Maybe the dispatcher should have asked to fix her door!
most of you seem to be missing the point. theres nothing wrong with a little sarcasm, but then theres also nothing wrong with working in your pajamas, its just unprofessional, the chief said it himself.
"this letter shall serve as notice that any future unprofessional responses while answering the 911 line will be cause for termination"

Fuck that. What if her other daughter was in danger? What if the girl had a knife? A gun? She said the girl was as big as her. This guy didn't know the extent of the situation. His role was to get as much information as he could and furnish that information to the police so that they could respond appropriately. Instead of asking, "Are you or anyone around you in imminent danger? Can you remove yourself from the situation until the police arrive?" he fucks around on the phone. That man's job involves assisting people whose lives may be in danger. You want that guy fucking around with jokes? She pays her taxes, she's entitled to the same professional service from civil servants as anyone else. It's not like you can say, "Well, the 911 representative was rude, so I think I'll switch to Acme Emergency Response, Inc. for my future service and protection needs." If I'm paying my city for a service, I goddamned well expect that service to be performed in a professional manner.
ok.
So, I am guessing people that are calling the woman a lazy / bad parent would say a woman being beat by her husband or something shouldnt call 911 either? Because it is essentially the same thing.
The woman said her kid was as big as her.
She said she was physically out of control.
I am guessing the 12 year old posed a physical threat to the mother and the other daughter.
hah, you should hear the actual taped conversation on the radio!
i think the dispatcher overstepped the bounds of proper conduct by making that remark, irrespective of the seriousness (or insignifcance, as in this case) the situation. it's not the role of a member of law enforcement/emergency response to crack jokes while tending to a 911 call.
that said, the mother clearly needs a better handle on her kid (i.e., better parenting) , and shouldn't have had to call 911 to get it.

If you aren't allowed to call 911 and tell jokes, the people answering the phones shouldn't try to be comedians.
And those of you condemming the mother for calling 911 for help with dealing with her daughter should remember this story the next time you hear about some mother losing her shit and beating her kid.
9-11
Was a joke 'cause they always jokin'
They the token to your life when it's croakin'
They need to be in a pawn shop on a
911 is a joke we don't want 'em
I call a cab 'cause a cab will come quicker
The doctors huddle up and call a flea flicker
The reason that I say that 'cause they
Flick you off like fleas
They be laughin' at ya while you're crawlin' on your knees
