I had a tongue piercing for three years that I recently removed. My girlfriend didn't seem to care that it was gone, in fact, it made certain things easier. I have also dated a couple of girls with tongue piercings, and I didn't really like it when they gave me oral sex. It was overstimulating in a bad way. For me, tongue piercings are purely a visually stimulating thing.
I also have a labret piercing, and it hasn't caused any problems for me. For those with them that have problems with their lower gums, I strongly suggest getting fishtail jewelry. It doesn't have a plate, it's just sort of a small bar that chills out on the side of your gums. You can play with it too. It's much more comfortable for me when kissing or giving oral sex, and it's much easier to remove for cleaning or shaving.
Oh, I also never had any tooth chipping issues. I did change the balls on my tongue piercing to neon green plastic ones though, to avoid that clanking that can go on.
If you have a tongue piercing that actually fits your tongue snug it wont crack up your pearlys.. but if your one of those eye bleeding sea wenches who has the longer barbell in that you should of been pierced with. annnnd never got it changed down because you could flip it over and along their lips, yes we know you have your tongue pierced. you are NOT cool.. it will chip. and you will deserve it.
most of my friends have had a chipped tooth or two from this...me, it's been over ten years and it's pierced twice and still no cracked/chipped teeth. go me.
i have two, and ive never had any problems... well except when i first got it done, and they put that super long barbell in there... that was a bitch...
I've had a 10g for 10 years now. Oh dear, that means that some of you were 8 years old when I had it done.
My piercing is at a slant though, with the top ball going more in the direction toward my uvula (the punching back thingie that dangles at the back of your throat, which btw, I've seen PIERCED before....eeeeeep!)
No problems here with tooth damage, thankfully, but I know many friends who have not been spared. They've suffered cracked teeth, broken fillings, and gum problems, but they had multiple piercings of varying gauges, so that might be why.
Check out the Piercedgroup when you can, there is a wealth of info there and the lovely Twwly is the group owner.
I've had mine pierced for about 2 years now, never chipped a tooth or anything like that. I did bite it a couple times right after I got it done, which hurt like a bitch but didn't do any damage.
As far as oral goes, my boy says he can't really tell the difference. I've been with guys with tongue piercings before, sometime I can't really tell the difference, sometime it made it better.
I've had my tongue pierced for about 10 years now and I've bitten on it before, and it's hurt, but no real damage. but ever since I changed to acrylic it hasn't really been a problem. I find acrylic a lot more comfortable.
If its pierced properly by a competant piercer (placement, jewelry) and you actually go back to have the barbell downsized after a couple of weeks, you shouldn't have any problems.
The only problems I've ever had with mine after almost (yipes) eight years, is when I decided to stretch it up to a 4g barbell. The ball was so huge that I couldn't close my mouth properly and giving head without losing my teeth was a thing of the past. Eventually I realised how impractical it was, and gave up the ability to put bar straws through my tongue as a party trick and went back to about an 8g which is a decent size for me.

I still have my long one...
I never chipped a tooth...
I'm still cool...
*cries*
But yah, the short one hurts my tongue. When I wake up in the morning it's painful.
If the bar is correctly fitted by a piercer who knows what they are doing there should be no problems
people tend to bite on the if the bar is too long, banging around in their mouth, or sometimes if the balls are too large. i changed from 5mm balls to 4mm and it feels SO much better
PS my X loved it when i gave him head, but i guess of a guys already really sensitive it could be a bad thing.
I did...chipped a molar while eating pizza.....I think it became a cavity, not sure, was looooong ago when I had my tongue pierced....on a side note, I have an off-center labret, and sometimes I'll bite the end of it accidentally while I'm eating....guess I need to get a smaller post...
9yrs now, no problems so far. of course, i wear a barbell comfortably snug to my tongue (it is loose enough for comfort, but short enough that it takes an act of will to place it against or between my teeth) and do not fiddle with it.
my ex bf chipped his tooth on his. my current boyfriend chipped his tooth on his lip ring and i think cracked a back tooth a bit with his tongue barbell. i have a friend who chipped a tooth on hers.
