I was having a discussion with yet another friend who'd accidentally cracked a tooth once when she still had her tongue piercing in. It seems almost half of the folks I know with tongue studs have had similar problems with chipped / cracked teeth from chomping down on the metal.

So I ask you, how many of you here have had a similar tooth-damaging issue?

My ex had a 10g and a 12g in at the same time for like 6 years, and never had a problem.

Like with anything, there can be freak accidents.

I have had my my tongue pierced for about a year now. I think in total I've bitten down on it maybe twice. The majority of people I know who chip there teeth are the ones who cant leave the damn thing alone. I mean I play with my tongue ring from time to time, but some people always have it going around in there mouth hitting there teeth.

I'm glad ThisIsWhoWeAre started this thread. My husband is campaigning for me to get my tongue pierced. He figures this is a great time to do it while I'm not working and can take care of it.

I'm just wondering if it's really worth it. I mean, I won't see it that often so if it's not an asthetic thing, I would be doing it for sexual reasons.

Does it really make much of a difference?

I don't have a pierced tongue, but I can tell you that kissing someone who does is awesome. I don't know why, but it's a huge turn on. smile

I have 2. One is pretty big, 6g, the other is 12g. I've had them for almost 10 years. I bite the bigger one, but it's VERY rare. I've never had a problem with chipping or cracking my teeth.

He's going to see it more than you are. Perhaps it's aesthetic for him?

If so, is he paying? tongue

ive had mine for 12 years. i was lucky enough not to have any problems when i was using SS barbells. for the past 2 years, ive been using all acrylic barbells to lessen the risk of tooth damage.

I had my tongue pierced for almost 10 years. I had one of my lower teeth get a minor chip after about 7 years. SOme of the enamel is also worn on the backs of my teeth as well. Even when your careful, shit happens. I took mine out a few weeks ago, and I am glad to be rid of it.

I don't think it makes a bit of difference in the sex dept. I've asked my husband and others and they all agree it's no different. Maybe I just don't know how to use it. wink

I've found that having a tongue ring actually makes it more difficult to give head, and my boyfriend says he can't really tell the difference.

I've had my tongue pierced for better than 12 years and I think I have bitten it no more than half a dozen times. I changed from the longer "healing" barbell to a short one some time ago and it makes a big difference.

Having a pierced tongue and formerly dated a girl with same, I don't think it makes a big difference sexually. Any piercing is fun to nibble and lick, and may increase sensitivity somewhat, but I think the whole pierced tongue = great oral pleasure is a myth put forth by people who stand outside the piercing scene.

Somewhat off topic, I have also had a labret for almost 14 years and I think there has been some influence on the bottom of my lower gums. It's hard to tell because I have been through other things that have affected my dental health. I have never bitten it though.

It is simultaneously humorous and disheartening how little knowledge there is about piercing in the medical community. Everyone from doctors to laypeople will quote some wives tales about what happens when you pierce something, but there are virtually no studies or clinical trials of any kind to back any of it up. You'd think that with the explosion of pierced kids, there would be some doctor somewhere who'd put together a study.

Thank you

When I did have my tongue pierced I always hit my bottom front teeth. It also fucked up my teeth and made them more crooked then they already were. Notice the lack of open-mouth smiling in my pictures.
