Ok, I searched around but didn't see a thread devoted specifically to this. There is a thread about movies that make you cry, but in perusing it I've found that most of the films listed are worthy of tears. If I'm wrong, and this is a dublicate thread, please don't stick my head on a stake a la Lord of the Flies. smile

There are plenty of movies that deserve to elicit a good weeping. I myself have no problem admitting to having shed a tear or two during The Fox and the Hound, Field of Dreams, and The Green Mile. What I want to know is what movie are you most ashamed to have cried during?

Personally, mine would be Phonebooth. I think it was the context. I was going through some heavy things with a girl, and was emotionally fragile. But when Colin Farrell broke down and became completely truthful, I lost it. There is something about emotional nudity, when people put down their defenses and masks and become open that makes so sad. I've been affected by this same thing at other moments, but this is the one I'm ashamed of. What about you?

I dried at Moulin Rouge because I watched mere days after a horrendous breakup.

I tend to cry at sports movies like "A League of Their Own" and "Miracle."

My dad cries at "The Wizard of Oz" very time.

I've only cried during two movies that I can think of:
The notebook and Congo. I have no fucking clue why I cried during Congo but I did.

I tend not to cry during movies so much as TV shows. I think its just that you can get better acquainted with the characters and feel for them more. I've been known to cry during the last episodes of series cause I'm sad I'll never see the characters again (at least in a new sense, there's always reruns).

I don't really cry at movies. And I didn't particularly like this movie. But when Bjork screamed at the end of Dancer in the Dark. I've never heard anything as primal as that.

*Edit: It wasn't just teary-eyed or a lump in the throat. I was blubbering crying. And I'm not ashamed either.

I don't know if I ever cried because of a movie, but I got a little teary eyed reading a book a few months ago. It's a seven book series, and one of the main characters died in the last book. It was terrible. . . frown

I only thing I watched that brought me to tears recently was the 1st season DVD of Def Poetry Jam. I don't remember the name of the poet, and SG is the only site working for me right now, so I can't look it up. It was a poem about 9/11, performed shortly after the event. I think it was the fact that it was a New Yorker relating her personal experiences that did it. And like FreakPirate, I'm not at all ashamed about it.

It was Suheir Hammad, and the poem is called "First Writing Since..."

I've never cried for a movie or show, but I think that's because I just don't watch that type of movie. I've only seen a couple of the films you guys have mentioned.

That being said, the closest I have come (lump in the throat) is the scene in Boyz 'n the Hood where they bring Ricky's bloody body to his mom's house.
