Once again, technology will find a way to extract more fuel in more efficient ways by then; the market will bet on it. In fact, China and India and all the other massive developing countries will probably be the best thing to ever happen to the energy industry, as it will finally push for more efficient and intuitive use of current and future forms of energy production.

For an enlightening look at the role of China in future oil production, see the current crisis in Sudan, which they're funding.

I live in Alberta and our oil prices are still high. We are one of the only places that produces enough so that we get noticed and we don't even get to benafit from all of our brown bubbly focilized goodness that we sell to almost every country that doesn't produce its own and can afford the high prices. Mind you, we are the only Canadian province that is officially out of debt. But because of our 'oil drive' to support superpowers like The old USA, Russia, and expecially China, our schools and roads are as run down as half the people. Damn superpowers! haha biggrin

The benefit comes from having jobs and money, not from low prices.

yes i understand that. But the heading of the news thread is that oil is getting more expensive and I was simply saying that its even expensive for the people who are producing it.

Pfft. You'd think China would be a little more worried about its water shortage.

Myos, You Albertans have little to brag about with your user-pay system.

SUV Tax? What? I said SUV Tax. yeah.

I love the idea of an SUV tax, or perhaps a horsepower tax as I understand some parts of Europe have. Maybe a "gross vehicle weight" tax would work as well? Americans obviously have a hard time making responsible choices when it comes to buying vehicles.

I just read this morning too that it is likely that the price of biodiesel will be holding steady in spite of the new federal biodiesel tax incentive. It's possible that the price may even raise due to increased demand and lack of supply. The good news is that there are some new refineries in the works such as the 32 million gallons of biodiesel a year plant being built in North Dakota, or even the smaller one that is built in Seattle but is currently awaiting a good source of feedstock. In the meantime I am looking at building a small BD processor of my own so my fuel price should be somewhere in the 0.70/gallon range!
