Reporters from the Sun newspaper managed to sneak an empty cardboard box into Windsor castle. That doesn't sound so worrying, until you hear that they'd written "BOMB" on the side of the box. They were driving a hired van, had no id, and they had a fake delivery note.

I'd like to think that sniffer dogs would have found any real explosives if they'd been present, but I guess that's a bit optimistic.

I'm sorry, but I hate the whole idea of the royal family. I'm a true republican, I care more about the dead pope than I do about the queen, and i'm an atheist. The royals should be pensioned off, stopped from wasting public finances, and the royal houses given to charity.

I like em. They bring tons of tourism money to the U.K., not to mention giving the tabloids endless front page fodder. If they were shuffled off, your economy would suffer, believe you me.

Next week I hear they are going to sneak in with sticks and write "Gun" on the side of them.

Wish it was a bomb – it might just overshadow the funeral of some other useless overpaid fool.

That said, I can't help but wonder of the Royal Family is still worth having around. Has anyone worked out the economics of what it costs to maintain them? And is that offset by the value of tradition at all?

Apparently not as high as you're allowed to be while still being a castle guard.

Well, let me tell ya something. If I see a big cardboard box with bomb written on the side, I think I'd proably assume it's not a bomb.

God bless the Sun for being so grown up about it. In response, the Queen has invaded the home of the Editor and is now giving royal decrees around the house (all to expose the Sun's lack of security, of course)

That's nothing. I think it was 60 minutes, or some other big news show like that smuggled uranium into the U.S. in almost the same fashion. They made it past customs and a bunch of bomb sniffing dogs and other various checkpoints.
