Okay, my defense of people who camp Star Wars showings, people who play in LARPs, people who can recite detailed histories of Star Trek, people who actually pay attention to bands beyond what you hear on the radio, folks who do gardening, folks who paint, folks who play sports.
People do things they enjoy. I know a guy who goes out every weekend and fights with foam swords. Within his sport he is one of the top players, the equivalent of the most sought after QBs in the NFL. Except what he does isn't socially acceptable, so people make fun of it. Fuck em. He enjoys it. I enjoy it on the occaisions when I go with him. It's your life and you only get one shot, might as well have fun.
ok. Bit does your friend wait in line 7 weeks to foam sword fight. The point is, there is a hobby and there is obsession and other people's obsessions are just a lot of fun to mock because they distract us from our own.
Fair enough.
I suddenly find myself wishing that they would anounce the end of the Superbowl, and that the the last one will be held next year. Just to see the line form up a month early.

Now my roommate is a cool guy. Well i think he is anyway. He plays Halo 2 about 5 hours a day, Friday nights he goes to a freidns house and plays Dungeons and Dragons from 3-midnight. Every weekend, and he's touring the cuntry this summer, he plays Lord of the 5 Rings, which is a turn based card game involving feudal Japan. Like Magic, remember that?... He loves star trek and comic books and gaming and fantasy RPGs.
And his response to finding out about this was "...Fucking Nerds".
