I'd like to personally thank Mr. Braden Looper for making Opening Day even more fun than usual.

Dmitri Young hit three home runs today. Not a bad start.

Cleveland lost 1-0. Jake Westbrook pitched a five hitter and still lost. Buehrle unfortunately decided he needed to throw a two hitter.

Your math is a little off. The Sox won the first ever World Series in '03

To be factually accurate...the Boston Pilgrims won in '03. biggrin

Dmitri Young, following in the footsteps of the mighty Tuffy Rhodes...three homeruns opening day of 1994, fourteen his whole career. tongue . No, Dmitri Young has been a pretty solid player. Good for him; it must be really cool to achieve something like that.

And that's because Mark Buerhle owns your soul! Fuck all this Twins talk, they're not getting out of the Central; White Sox WS Champions 2005, woohoo!

How badly did the Nats suck today? I didn't check the score.

My bastard roommate decided he was leaving work and going to Camden Yards, and didn't even ask me if I wanted to go. Fucker.

Not a chance; if the Twins don't take it, it's going to be the Tribe.

The Gnats lost 8-4, if you didn't check the box score yet. They were losing 7-1 last I checked, but I guess they came back to make it look semi-respectable. They had 13 hits, for what that's worth. Vinny Castilla, who must be 716 years old at this point, had a pretty good game.

Try being a Phillies diehard. I posted this earlier in Pip's journal when he poked fun at me for my current profile pic.

Yeah, it gets a little hard being a diehard fan of the losingest franchise in the history of professional sports, but I'm a lifer.

You Red Sox people think you have it hard, try rooting for a team that have reached only five World Series (and won only one) in 116 years.

And yet I do, wholeheartedly, every year.

OPENING DAY!!

GO SOX!! (they're my AL team)
GO PHILS!!

And just to rub it in......

Yep...I was there. biggrin

Me too, best thing Aaron Boone did was hurt his knee so the Yanks could pick up A-Rod.

Really? How'd that work out for the Yanks last year? Yeah, that little slappy move he did last Fall, that's the stuff legends are made of.

You guys would kill to have him.

Really? Because the Sox could very well have thrown more money his way after the Union decision and secured him. And oh, am I glad they didn't.

They cheaped out, but let's be honest he's one of the 3 best offensive players in the game today. You'd kill to have him, even if he is a little douchey.

Keep A-Rod. He's not welcome on my team. All he brought us was three last place finishes, clubhouse poison and not as many clutch hits as you would think. Goodbye and good riddance!

Bumping the thread a year later. Less than 2 hours until I can see a fresh game! As always, some of the names and faces have changed. Some off-season moves have stabbed at me from the deepest pits of Hell, some have made me feel all atwitter with anticipation.

Without restating my feelings about Baseball and opening day, I'd like to put in writing how happy I am that the post I wrote a year ago today paved the way for some really great friendships. My cornball endorsement of the coming of Spring led to real time relationships with some really wonderful folks. You guys know who you are. I look forward to seeing you next week.

One caveat: This part is no longer applicable

I said:
In the end I would like to offer my undying gratitude to the supernatural forces who govern both meteorological cycles and the infield fly rule for this wonderous annnual rebirth. I finish this unsolicited essay and go to give thanks to the Passion of the Centerfielder.

Thank you

P.S. Go Red Sox
