According to Warner Bros, Darren Aronofsky is the next Stanley Kubrick. It may be hard to believe that any filmmaker can be compared to what many consider the greatest filmmaker of all time. But Aronofsky's new movie The Fountain starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz may very well prove Warner Bros claim correct. The Fountain combines elements of Braveheart, a love story and 2001: A Space Odyssey into one film where a man discovers the fountain of youth and all throughout history he tries to save...

I'm so looking forward to this film. smile

Even if 'Braveheart' is used in it's description.

I loved DA's first two films.

I really hope Warner Bros is not going around hailing Aronofsky as the next Kubrick. I loved Requiem, am so sad he didn't do Batman, and can't wait to see this.

DRE: Did you talk to Bowie about doing some music?

ARONOFSKY: Yeah, well not music, but hopefully a third Major Tom song. It'd be cool.

Just cool? That's a bit of an understatement.

I'm glad The Fountain got back on it's feet again. I'm interested to see what Aronofsky will do with this one. Requiem absolutely floored me when I saw it.

I always follow the works of directors I love. Aronofsky is no exception. I will see this movie if it shows itself it my shithole town.

I couldn't agree more, but it's precisely because of Requiem... that the comparison irks me. If they mean simply in terms of impact and such, then fine. But stylistically--assuming Requiem is a guide--the Kubrick comparison is unjust. How many cuts were there in RfaD? 8,000?

But anyway, I'll check this one out. Nice intie.

I like Afronsky and all, but no one thinks he's the next Kubrick or even near that league. Spielberg tried to make a Kubrick movie, and it was awful.

just saw the fountain today and was blown away.

it seems to be a critics vs. audience movie, but so was 2001 when it came out, so well see how it stands up to time.

I dig Aronofsky, thank god somebody making films in Hollywood has balls. But who would want to be the next Kubrick?
Requiem for a dream is one of my favorite movies, even though Aronofsky stole half of the stylistics of it from Shinya Tsukamoto.
