Hey kids!

Last week was my birthday. I was thinking about taking my birthday money and getting a camera phone.

My old phone is wearing out. Need a new battery atleast. So I have been thinking about a new phone any way. A camera phone sounds fun.

I am with Verizon and don't really want to change companies. Just want a better phone. And of course see what they will give me for free.

Any tips on camera phone brands to look for or avoid?

Ah, here's a slogan. Camera phones: For when you don't have the cash or ambition to buy a real camera.

But seriously I like motorola for cam phones.

gotta agree with eternal idiot. if you want a camera and don't wanna spring for a good one (like my BRAND NEW CANON POWER SHOT G6 biggrin ) then the motorolas are pretty fine.

I dunoo about the whole camera phone thing. I like my phone to be a good phone. And I like my camera to be a good camera.

Somehow I think something is lost fusing the two.

Dude, I have real cameras. Now I want a camera PHONE.

(Read that in Peewee Herman's voice. Pretty funny.)

I got a phone cause it's small and it was cheap. It just happened to have a camera, but the picture quality is so crappy I don't know why people get all excited about them.

Yeah. The MP rating on phones is shitty. The new 2MP cam phone that's coming out is getting so much buzz, even though in the world of REAL camera's that's nothing. Check about.com for comparisons.

PS Paul, I guessed you had real cameras by the Nikon suffix. tongue And the last comment is more funny if you read it in Peewee Herman's mindset.

it really depends on the lighting. the darker the area, the more grainy your phonecam pics will be. i don't know much about verizon's phones, but i hear their selection is decent.

i use the sony ericsson z500a.

I have an LG 8900T and the picture quality is ok, but the software is absolute crap. It doesn't turn on when it's on the charger so if it dies it's done until it has charged up again, and the button functions just suck. I'm going with Motorola next time....

Surprisingly enough the Audiovox CDM-8900 is pretty nice.
At least, it was for the half-year I had it...just don't take it to Washington DC..it tends to team up with your wallet, and run away when you're not looking. frown
There's a few shots from in in my pics, if ya wanna check out the quality.

Last week I got a LG7000 from Verizon. So far I love it. It's a camera phone AND it takes 15 second video clips! With sound! biggrin

Just to note - I don't really see a need for camera phones but wanted a phone with internet capability. My old carrier (Qwest = the devil) only offered that service with its camera phones. So I ended up getting a Sanyo something or other. Not too bad, crappy photo quality though. When I switched to Verizon my dad offered to buy me a swanky new phone with the attitude of "Well if you're going to have one of those camera ones you may as well get the one that takes video too." I didn't argue.

I really don't know why I went into that long explanation.

Has anyone noticed that most camera phones take the equivalent of "skinny mirror" pictures? I can tell every camera phone picture on myspace by how unrealistically thin some of my fat friends look in their pictures. Heh they make me look so much better than I do in person. I hate those things.

I recently got a cell that had a camera in it, I just had gotten a digi camera as well. Now I can go out and am able to capture random things I find interesting without having to take my camera everywhere.

I got a camera phone from verizone recently and it was free when I signed a new contract. The camera works pretty well as does the phone I can't really complain about either.

I've got a Motorola V3, which has a camera. Sometimes, it can take really nice pictures. Sometimes though, they just look shit. I think they're a good little gadget and feature to have, but as mentioned above, if you want a decent camera, best to buy an actual camera smile

I still haven't seen a camera phone pic that looks half way decent, but in general I'd actively avoid the higher MP models. Those sensors are tiny, so if you don't want to print you're actually better off with a lower MP model since it should have lower noise. It's all relative to photosite density though, so you have to pay attention to the physical size of the sensor in relation to MP.

This picture is from the new phone/cam. A $40 chocolate bunny. He is now 50% off.

Wait, no one wanted a $40 chocolate bunny? Pretty sure they don't want a $20 one either.

Ended up getting an LG VX6100.

I really like it. But have only had it 24 hours. See the chocolate rabbit.

Its way beyond any phone I have ever had. Dude at work was inpressed. He had a pretty fancy phone.

The camera has a lense cover that slides into place. The flash doesn't really help much. Seems better to use it without the flash. Better "aperture" setting with the flash off.

Its been fun so far. Hopefully I'll get some pictures of naked ladies or a nice sunset and show you guys.
