Yeah, I'd like to apologize to our mates across the pond for ripping off another great show. Sorry.

Steve Carell still rules though.

i don't think i hated it. i certainly didn't love it. in fact, i kind of expected to despise it, so i guess can't complain. i just honestly didn't realize that it was going to be a scene for scene remake of the original

I thought it was hilarious. I haven't seen the British version, but this was damned funny.

Between this and Arrested Development, network comedy may be on a rise.

Didn't NBC try this once before and fail miserably? By "this" I mean an Americanized version of 'The Office'.

Or am I thinking of something else?

Ok, if you were to see a version of a British Arrested Development after having seen the American one, and the British version is nothing but a scene to scene rip off, then you would know what it was like to watch it tonight. However, having not seen the original, you are right in assuming it was very good.

The American version of that might well be the worst show I've ever seen.

I thought it easier to turn off the television and instead plan to stab the eyes of those involved with that abortion.

They were vry self consciously trying to make it the new "Friends" it was the worst thing I've ever seen on TV. Except for Crazy Love.

i only caught the last half of it and all i could think was, "holy shit they made this awful." seriously, do yourself a favour and rent the original DVDs (plus the loose-ends-tying Christmas Special) and forget that ricky gervais ever had anything to do with NBC.

The American version of the Office is a pale, pale imitation of the British version. They may have made original episodes, but the last episode I saw, where the American "Gareth" commandeers the conference room for an office, and conducts an investigation is taken directly from the British series, although slightly different circumstances.

I the British version you believe that Pam and Jim really like each other becauseit's all very subtle and nuanced, and longing glances at each other. The American version has none of the subtlety. And as great as Steve Carrell is, his character is just a complete asshole, you could really care less what happens to him. I used to cringe when I watched Ricky Gervais because you felt so bad for him.
