I think most people would seem cute & harmless if that story were about them. But you actually lost me with that last reference so I can't say for sure.

Swans are the property of the Queen, and a protected species, so I can understand why being offered "swan terrine" would be horrific or shocking to someone in the UK. Its like being offered Bald Eagle meat here in the US.

However, it seems the thing to do if a swan dies on your property is to move it off your property and let someone else take the heat or something. It appears he is in trouble for being in possession of the dead swan in and of itself.
