the gay/scientology thing is a big issue. at the highest levels, they openly disapprove, and can 'cure' you through Dianetics. Ron was no fan of homosexuality.
there's a story going around LA that they 'cured' Travolta by keeping him isolated for two weeks in a clinic. sounds a bit much to me...
regarding cruise, who knows, but he's been known to be extremely defensively litigious if you hint at such in the press.

I have plenty of personal experience with Scientology... while their intentions are good, and I share some of their beliefs (for example, that perscription drugs are bad), I have come to realize they are pretty culty and creepy. You know that way they all sort of STARE at you when you talk? All intense like. Like their overly concentrating on what you're saying. They offer a communication course that teaches you, among other things, to *focus entirly* on someone when they're talking. It makes sense, in a way, but the result is just creepy. Anyway, I took that course, but once I realized that they were trying to teach me the STARE thing, I quit.
