i've never been to the store because i am from canada, i am sure the store itself is probably obnoxious, but i am not one to turn down a cute and possibly cheap piece of clothing just because of an uncool stigma attached to it. i mean, maybe if every teeny bopper person was wearing it, but if i hadn't seen it around, i would be fine with it. maybe my attitudes have to do with me always having been poor... but i am no elitist. if i like something, i like something, and i don't care if it's from a store that "cool people" might snicker at. haha.

Hot Topic makes me uncomfortable.. too many weird kids cursing and horseplaying in one small space.

I do think it's funny to see how hard these kids try to be off the beaten path, but they all look pretty much the same. I used to buy my "cool" outfits at Goodwill or Christians in Action, then I would sew them or add patches or write random phrases on them...

I do like to buy stickers and the occasional t-shirt at HT, but usually I end up shopping at Guess or Express for my real clothes.

I saw my first Hot Topic a couple of weeks ago, when I was in LA. I can certainly see what all the discussion is about!!

whats with the Hot Topic Phobia anyway? I understand why people don't like the sudden pop punk explosion, or the tiny kids that wear complete outfits from there. But do you really feel the need to prove something by declaring you'd never step foot in there?

let's see... if you shop at hot topic, you might be trying to make a statement about being anti-status quo/punk/goth, etc. therefor, you might be making a statement about rebelling against something. if you do not, you might be trying to rebel against what you see as pseudo rebellion via comodified, counter culture fashion. in short, it seems like circular logic to me. it seems like people who are really defiant about shopping/not shopping there are trying to act like they are making some huge statement, which for many is probably along the lines of 'i'm so cool because i shop/don't shop at hot topic'. not trying to make a blanket statement about everyone, but this mentality seems to be common when this debate is brought up. not sure if that made any sense.

me? i have shopped there, when i had money and really thought punk was partly/mostly about what you wore and what music you listened to. still look around whenever i'm at a mall. usually don't buy anything because i'm either broke or would rather spend my money on something else. i just really don't care any more.

or maybe you could shop there because YOU LIKE THE CLOTHES?

gah.... fuck hot topic! they are the most corporate of corporate....they are owned by abercrombie and fitch, and exist soley to make money off the little posers that wanna dress "just like avril and good charlotte"....i shit you not i heard that come out of a manager's mouth.....they're overprice crap that you can buy cheaper directly from band and company websites if you want company clothing and from the thrift shop for way cheaper.....they suck....
EL SUICIDO LOCO

theyre not owned by Abercrombie. trust me. i've worked at both stores (even if it was for ridiculously short amounts of time).

and they overprice it so they can make money. do you REALLY think a Big Mac costs a dollar? no. it costs about 30 cents. its called capitalism... you make your money.

and yeah, they do suck. i'll agree with you there... i never really looked towards Tim Burton as a fashion icon but go figure.

it actually is owned by abercrombie, hollister is as well.....abercrombie jsut doesn't connect itself to hot topic very publicly(sp?), i can't remember where i read it but i found out when doing a project for school a couple years ago....

eh, I go in and either get really mad or just start laughing at people because they're trying so damn hard to be unique. Also, because I'm in Denver, every other shirt is a friggin ICP shirt, so I don't really buy shirts from them, unless they're clearanced. Actually, clearanced is pretty much the only stuff I buy from them, got two of my most favorite and commented on shirts from there for maybe five bucks.

No. It's not. Hollister and Abercrombie are owned by the same company. Hot Topic is not. You were misinformed.

Oh, and if you eat a package of Pop Rocks and then drink a can of Coke... you're not going to explode.

Good job divulging the truth. Because I'd have to cut my thumbs off if I owned stock in anything related to Abercrombie. HT is it's own entity. Maybe you were thinking of abercrombie, old navy, banana re-pubic and some other prep shop which are all under the same parent company. You can look up the stocks.

Not Dickies Girl. I love those fucking pants.

I don't go to the mall that often. It creeps me out. But when I do, I usually stop by the Hot Topic and poke through the clearance section.

I bought a pair of shoes there once for $7. But in general I shy away from going inside. Something about that store puts a knot in my stomach.

This struck me as funny.. If you have the money to shop at Hot Topic, you can afford to buy a needle and thread. I never had a sewing machine, but I did my own stuff by hand.
