I just lost my job there

frown

Being a punk, I always felt out of place at a mall chain store.

Working there for so long I can't help but notice the amount of HT appearal that appears on this site.

I would'nt say I "shop" there, but I look around every once in a while, and sometimes buy something.

And I know a few people on SG who work there, it's OK.

I picked up a Ninja Turtles shirt there. Does that make me uncool?

i can't stand hot topic, they don't even sell quality stuff. its all cheap. they sell dickies for $50 when you can get them at the hardware store for under $20.

I used to shop there once in a while in high school, but turned mostly to cheaper, better stuff.

I'm glad you started this topic, I myself am very intrigued by hot Topic.

I don't live in the US but I've been there a few times during the last times I was around. I did buy some stuff there though I'd hardly consider to have built my wardrobe on it mainly because it's rather expensive.
I've been getting the vibe though that you should lie about shopping there because it's not "authentic" and "punk" and stuff. So fair enough, ending up looking like that twat girl who sings that skaterboy song is pushing it or people who walk around with "I'm punk" or Anarchy t-shirts bought for 30 bucks at the mall is I find appalling but they do have some decent stuff in there and I wouldn't discredit it entirely. Shop there just don't end up looking like it's the only place you shop. I know I disliked it for a while because of how hard it was to find goth or rock clothes when I was a teenager and I thought it was unfair because if you were "really" rock'n roll or whatever that means you either made your own clothes, got them from thrift stores or found some rare pieces every now and then in more "traditionnal" clothes shop. It was basically putting to ruin all the efforts I had made to look cool and original and turning "rock" clothes into another commodity.

Originally though they were pretty much born as a "child" of Lip service.

that's my 2 cents, spend it on whatever you like.

whats with the Hot Topic Phobia anyway? I understand why people don't like the sudden pop punk explosion, or the tiny kids that wear complete outfits from there. But do you really feel the need to prove something by declaring you'd never step foot in there?

If I go to the mall, I might buy band shirts, undies, cute random things, especially if its discounted.

Just to be clear, I wasn't directing questions at anyone in particular--its just a trend I've noticed.

I agree completely. There aren't many stores that sell band shirts.

All the time. Usually t-shirts or the occasional button or wristband. I think I bought a couple of belts there too.

I'll buy the occasional item from their online store but never step foot into the one in the mall. Its like its infested with little Good Charlotte wannabes. I could understand people buying band shirts there depending where they lived. But I can get band shirts at a billion little places around here.

it's because it's a corporate invasion and exploitation of a supposedly " underground" subculture that started out as a do it yourself, independance type movement.
