Sadly good, free web hosts pretty much died in 2002 or so. We are left only with their hideous, mangled progeny that will rape you and anyone who looks at your site up the butt.

http://geocities.yahoo.com/home/

I have one, its not great, but its free!
http://us.geocities.com/alpha_peak/index.html

If you click on the link, turn down the volume on your comp, I made a little loop that is pretty annoying. And don't mind the pic of me, I need to change it in a hurry cause its about 6 years old.

Anyways

Oh.

I have non stop problems when i try to update my page, I just thought it was because I am a mac user. The page builder has bugs for mac users as it was not fully tested.

I no know.

Dish out the $10 a month for a real host. You're not going to find a good free hosting company that'll last more than a couple of months.

I owned a free web hosting network for a year (AloofHosting), and we had over 20,000 users, but still folded last October. There's just no money in it. Clickthrough rates for ads on free hosting pages are attrocious.

My whole involvement in the thing really hurt my faith in humanity. You wouldn't believe the war we had going with spammers and pornographers from China....

I digress though, the bottom line is that it's impossible to make money with free hosting without putting multiple popups on each page. Thus, you should go with a $10 a month personal account with a real host, cause otherwise you'll be upset with what you get.

i've found 'webmasters' to be very good, it's $9.95 monthly ($119.40/year).

# 1 GB of disk space with 30 GB of burstable bandwidth.
# 300 POP3 mailboxes, unlimited aliases, autoresponders.
# Proprietary webmail with all the features of Outlook.
# Advanced spam filter which blocks over 98% of Spam.
# PHP, ASP, ColdFusion, Perl, Python, C++, SSI, and Tcl/Tk.
# Free shopping cart with real time credit card processing.
# Exclusive control panel with full suite of web admin tools.
# 24/7 phone or email support with virtually no downtime.
plus loads more

Some good ~$10 a month hosts:

1&1 Hosting
PowWeb
iPowerWeb

I've worked with both PowWeb and iPowerWeb before and they're both great.

I've been with Brinkster for about 6 months and they've been pretty good so far. I use the pro package which is $7.95 p/m but they have a personal package available for $4.95 p/m. I think the one catch is that you have to pay quarterly or yearly.

I've had good experience before with Interland hosted accounts. Their website shows that they have a $10/month package and I remember their support being fairly good.

In reality though, I'm sure that any large company that offers hosting (e.g. Yahoo, Brinkster, Earthlink, etc.) would be a reasonable choice for anything but a really ambitious web project.
