i still say it's mean

i've used the word 'bro.' granted, i've only used it as a joke, but i've still used it!

There are all sorts of overused slangy things that i and my friends started uing as jokes that slowly, insidiously ate their way into our normal vocabulary requiring some sort of verbal extermination.
Ex: Dude. Word. Howdy. ugh so many horrible words.

the thing that sucks about using one word to refer to anyone, especially when you don't really know them is that it just lacks sincerity.

my god i've been doing the same thing, dahlin' for my closer female friends, and buddy for just about anyone.

many a round of drinks is followed up with "cheers buddy!"

i put the buddy thing down to the hudsucker proxy, dahlin is a mystery to me

as for bro, i have no particular taste or distaste for the word, but i did have a flatmate called tony who said bro whenever he addressed ANYONE. he called his dog bro, he called his girlfriend bro, anyone he could, it was especially funny when i walked into the kitchen and caught him talking to the cat, saying "hey little bro, you want some chicken bro?"

tony was a good guy, but he was also completely drugfucked

M1stab, you are so so very correct

...there's this certain krishna fellow downtown a lot trying to sell his books and get people interested.... his greeting/intro is ALWAYS "hey, Bro..." i've politely said "no thanks" numerous times as he's approached me (i live downtown so our paths cross often). i introduced myself once, asked him his name (travis), and more or less told him that if he can greet me once by name instead of "hey bro" i'll stop and listen to what he's got to say. that was about five months ago, and he still dosen't recognize the fact that he's approached me about four-dozen times in the past year, and probably scratches his head that i always say, "no thanks, travis" whatever
