I'm lost
October 2002

NOV 26, 2002 12:06 AM

I remember a day when everyone I knew smoked. It wasn't an issue with the women I knew. These days though I find a lot of women don't like to date smokers. That's cool because at this point I know I need to quit but just haven't. I'm curious though. How many women out there will or won't date a smoker?

I'm with you, bro. I smoke and most women don't want it these days.

I think that's awesome, but goddamn I'm not strong enough yet to quit smoking. Smoking is bullshit.

I quit for a while. I should have stayed that way. I was having a tough time in life a few months back and went on a road trip. Becasue of the combination of stress and boredom on the road trip I convinced myself to start again. I even said I wouldn't smoke too much and would quit again soon. What kind of F**ked up rationalization is that?!?!?!? Damn I'm addicted to these things. The only reason I brought this topic up is because I want to quit again, and was thinking about it.

it's been 4 years since i've kissed a non-smoker. ech ech. my last boyfriend was really wonderful about it, though. he would brush his teeth as soon as i came over or as soon as he came to my place. he even carried around some lovely lotion to cover-up the stinkiness. i really appreciated that.

even though you can't really help who you fall for, i don't really see myself ever dating a smoker again. i hate it so much that it's not fair to either one of us.

i've dated a few smokers. what's really scary is the moment you realize you don't care about the taste anymore. that creeps me out awhole lot.

i think i agree with donkey's take. if you are dating a smoker it's much easier to smoke, if you aren't it's equally as easy to quit.

Kissing a smoker when you're not one is just awful. I don't know if I can say I strictly won't date a smoker, because if I meet someone I find amazing, and then find out they smoke... I wouldn't give it all up just for that.

But boy, I'd beg night and day for him to quit. So much that he'd quit just to shut me up! biggrin

Y'all sure do limit yourselves a lot. I just seem to fall for people helplessly whether they smoke, eat meat, hell even if they were yeast eating vegans...I even fell in love with a hippie chick who wore patchouli oil when I was going to UC Santa Cruz, and it made all my goth friends distrustfull of me. Heh.

I like knowing people who are not like me AT ALL. There's a lot more to people than their habits and politics,

You don't like me smoking.
I don't like your big, goofy shoes.

There.

Can we move on to more important things like integrity, honesty, compassion, and stuff like that?

Cool. Thanks.

oh, and amen to what Ratty said.

I'm not into smoking, having quit a long time ago. I've found that ruling people out as dates, friends, whatever because of a mild bad habit is poor rationale. I've dated smokers (and -non), drinkers (and -non),omnivores and vegetarians alike.
As long as the person you're with is considerate of your preferences, all is well. I prefer that no one smoke in my house or car, and everyone is OK with that. (Nobody has to go outside, since my garage is 2,000 sq ft and heated...)

Pretty much everyone I'm attracted to ends up being a smoker. Which sucks for me because I quit earlier this year. The taste doesn't bother me or anything but the smell of their hands makes me want a cigarette. Plus I've noticed my breathing change since I stopped being saturated with second hand smoke from my buddies at home. So now I avoid them i guess.

i can't kiss smokers. i just can't. i have this aversion to cigarettes. very very strong aversion. so i gess the answer is no i would not date a smoker unless he decided that if he's gonna smoke to not do it around me and get rid of all the taste/smell of it before seeing me.

harsh?
