Just wanted to see if any fellow members are in the education business.. I'm looking to become a teacher and would love to see what others have to say about the profession in the 21st century..

Cool, how is that working out? I always see ads around campus that say "10,000 teachers needed for ESL abroad," or something like that, and I was considering it to get some experience, especially since I have a major in linguistics... More info, pleez!

it's pretty cool. i'm just at the end of 2 years, so i'm kinda cranky. in korea, the pays good, and it's super cheap to live. spicey food, people are pretty friendly. ummm... really too much to post, i could run pages long...

it's a good easy job, and way to rack up on cultural experience. it's not, however, very fulfilling. at most places, a monkey could do your job. and you're treated a bit like an english etaching monkey. younger students are forced by their parents to take english. odler students ( college age) usually have it as a requirement to graduate, and tend to fall asleep in class and do a lot of whining about grades, and can speak some pretty awful english for having 6 years of it previous... the educational system here needs serious work.
but if you work it right, you can end up with a job with 3-4 monthsd paid vacation, and free plane flight, cheap health insurance, and free housing! yay. and new friends and language skills. then use all that teaching experience for eventually teaching something you care about.

I TA'ed chemistry and organic chem a year ago at SDSU. Lousey pay and lousey students. Its fun to teach but maybe it would be more fun with people who cared to learn.
