Pam Bricker, Takoma Park, MD resident who lent vocals to the Thievery Corporation's song "Lebanese Blonde", hung herself at home on February 26. She reportedly suffered from clinical depression.

Ms. Bricker was a prolific performer in the Washington area, appearing regularly at several jazz clubs and teaming with the Thievery Corporation several years ago.

Thievery Corporation brought her the worldwide notice and booking schedule for which she had longed. She toured European clubs and festivals and was pleased to find an audience that did not view her as, she often put it, "a living jukebox" providing background sounds in a bar.

Ms. Bricker was honored five times by the Washington Area Music Association, winning best contemporary jazz vocalist 1999-2001, best contemporary jazz album in 2001, and best duo or group in 1993.

So, you're saying that since other people die, no one should care that *she* died? That if everyone can't be acknowledged, no one should be? whatever

What was the point of your post?

Well said. People acknowledge the lives and deaths of people they know, or people who have affected them in some way. This isn't to say that other lives didn't have value, but why should anyone ever feel guilty for marking the passing of someone they admired just because they didn't notice each and every one of the 150,000 other people who died in the world that day? whatever

not well said at all, actually very ignorant to what i typed. it was not meant to make anyone feel guilty, and never did i mention the word guilt. if you happened to read the posts above mine, it seems as if the people neither knew nor admired her, so i posted to question why they would mourn the passing of one stranger, moreso than another

Maybe you've been living in a vacuum for the past few months, but there are a whole lot of people on this site who happen to be big fans of the Garden State soundtrack, which the original post stated she appeared on. Also, the post mentioned that she was a regular performer in DC clubs... and a quick glance at the location of the first poster would reveal he lives in the DC metro area. It's not such a stretch to imagine that he might have admired her.

You sure do pick odd places to take stands.
I wrote an article about the death of Peter Benenson, the founder of Amnesty International, as well.
Feel free to start bitching all over again if they publish it.

Y'know, I've seen you posting in a lot of threads lately, and I gotta say... you're pretty consistantly self-righteous, pushy and inflammatory. You like to argue based on lingual technicalities, and your points tend to be simultaniously weak and condescending. I would like to kindly and respectfully request that you sit down and shut up.

Sure it did. As he's a fan of hers, the obvious response to her death isn't shock or dismay, but indigence that everyone else's death's weren't mentioned in the article.
