I quit smoking about 4 days ago (cold turkey) and I'm a little interested in how this has been effecting me and if other people have experienced the same feelings.

So here are my symptoms:
*While I haven't been irritable, I have been jumping back and forth between wanting to call everyone I know to hang out to not wanting to be around anyone. This happens in about 30 min to an hour intervals.
*when I get intense cravings my mouth will water horribly and I start to sweat. I think this one is pretty standard.
*Again, pretty standard, but I've been getting headaches
*I'm super jittery and have been taking walks to try and get rid of this.
*The first two days I was really nauseous and actually threw up at one point.
*Oddly enough, I've been coughing a lot while my body readjusts to the lack of nicotine.

By the way, if anyone is curious, I've been smoking for about 12 years. I'm sure that effects some of this. Anyway, I would be interested to hear some of the more extreme side effects and which ones anyone may have had in common my experience.

I quit smoking on monday, after smoking for 7 years (Started at age 13). I went 2 days without a smoke, but I couldn't handle it. I used to smoke a pack a day, so I just started limiting myself. I'd buy a pack and say, okay, this is going to last me 5 days. and that's working better than the cold turkey did.

The patch works!! You can cut them in half and add them as needed. As time goes by start putting the patch on later and later in the day. In about 2 months you have kicked the habit. And also the patch gives you some pretty cool dreams.

Might I suggest toothpicks? They seem like a cheaper alternative. I'm not a smoker, but I have a oral fixation and usualy have to have a toothpick in my mouth.

I've tried to quit several times, still not successful frown

I turn into an evil bitch when I quit. Everything and everybody annoys me to no end. I get migranes, chew gum, play video games or something to keep my hands busy.

About the only tip I have it to try and stay away from people who smoke. I live with two smokers and it almost impossible to quit while i'm sitting beside them watching them light up one after another.

Any of the times i've quit, two things have happened for about a week.

1) I slept ALOT
2) I was the grumpiest, most bitter asshole on the face of the Earth when I wasn't sleeping.

I quit after 8 years 4 months ago, started smoking one here and there while drinking, and after dealing with some fucked shit recently have been sorat smoking again, like a pack or two over a few days, quit for a few more, smoke for a few more, quit again. Shit sucks. I get real lightheaded and my eyeballs feel weird. I decided to just cut it again today and its not going so well.

Right after you quit, be sure to say as often as possible in a gruff and weared tone, "I picked a hell of a day to quit smoking."

I want to start smoking, just so I can do that. biggrin

LOL, I used to say that to people all the time when they said I should quit. I always said "My mother always taught me that I should be a quitter."

While I hope I stick with it and am happy I quit, I still say that those self-rightous fucks who feel the need to remind smokers they should quit should shut the fuck up. Like we don't know it's bad for us, its an addiction for christ's sake.

Your eyeballs feel weird? How strange (trying to remember if my eyeballs felt weird) I don't think I experienced that one. The last time I tried to quit was years ago so I can't really remember the feelings I had then. I'm pretty sure my eyeballs were ok though, I think I would remember that one.

Oddly enough, I've been chowing down on mints, but I haven't been hungry at all. I think it may have something to do with mint being a natural appetite suppressant. Still, I don't know that most candy actually uses real mint...who knows.

I had the same experience once when I took a break from smoking for a month. I think it's because you have more blood flowing to your eyes when you aren't smoking, so it's almost like you become aware of your eyeballs in a slightly creepy way.

ive been back and forth for years and havent been 100% successful yet

when i go a week without i start getting really tired and eating a lot more, or at least a little soemthing all the time, and i have trouble even watching someone on tv smoking without getting pissy

im weird and will go at least 2 days a week without smoking and have a pack last me the rest of the week (unless i go to a party or something, then i can go through a pack A LOT faster)

you will probably replapse given the cold turkey method
when i quit fro long periods i just try to pace myself (ween off) until you can get down to maybe 2 packs a week - at that point i find i plateau - and have to switch over to the patch

this woman i work with had hypnosis it seems to have worked

This always happens to my boyfriend when he stops for a while. My theory is that your lungs get strong enough to reject all the gunk that's built up in them. He coughs up some crazy shit when he stops smoking.

I never tried quitting myself. I enjoy smoking. So why would I want to stop?
My grandfather is 93. He is living proof that I don't want to live that long anyhow.
And I always get a little upset when a friend quits. I guess it's just one less person to go outside to smoke with when we are at non-smoking places. Just one more person off the team. Selfish bastards.
