Now, before anyone jumps down my throat, this is a purely hypothetical question, it just struck me when i was looking at a car and I noticed it had "vegan" sticker on the back.
So I got to thinking, is gas itself vegan, after all it does come from the remains of (now extinct of course) animals, thus "fossil fuel"
But I do think its kind of interesting, at what point does an animal cease to be an animal for dietary and/or lifestyle purposes?

Any animals that died to make gas died of natural causes millions of years ago. Probably not any major violation of their rights. Nice try, though.

Mmm vegans. I say if we just eat the vegans, everyone wins. The vegans protect their precious animals, and the carnivores still get meat.

No I'm not, I'm just making sure that the time honored tradition of canibalism is represented in this discussion.

this is exactly what i din't want in this thread. I had a question, although hypothetical and probably irrelevant, but i didn't want it to be a "make fun of vegans" thread, there's enough of those, i have nothing but respect for the lifestyle, i sure as hell couldn't do it smile

There is no vegan borg. Vegans are individuals and we define our veganism differently. At it's base veganism is simply about consciously abstaining from ingesting animal matter. Everything else is variable.

Well, you don't eat leather jackets either, and leather jackets aren't exactly vegan.

I'd say that because gas deposits were formed from long- and naturally-dead plant and animal matter, not animals that were killed for human consumption, then gas is vegan. Not environmentally optimal, but vegan. You using gas does not cause pain, suffering, or death to animals.

However, like Olivia said, veganism is open to interpretation. There are no hard-and-fast rules, other than you dont' eat animals or animal products.

Heh, I'm not serious at all. Actually, I think that is a good question, and honestly, I don't think it matters from the vegan perspective. The animals are dead, of natural causes, and it isn't hurting them to use their remains. However, many of the vegans I know are also concerned with the environment, and may take issue with the use of cars in general. So honestly, I guess it varies from vegan to vegan, and whether or not they are more strictly concerned with animals, or more so concerned with the environment in general.

The town bus in...Hippie town in colarado, anyway it runs on the Veggie diesel, supposed to be good stuff, but it still costs a buck a gallon, I think its supposed to be refined, and there aren't many places to get it.

Sure they can be. But they definitely conflict with the Animal Rights movement. However there are plenty of vegans who couldn't give a shit about Animal Rights.
