So I was at work and a little bored, so I decided to do a few comics to put up on SG. I hope everyone enjoys them.

Please comment if you wanna. smile

Yikes, So I guess I missed the mark of humor with these. That is unless you consider family circus funny...hmmm...

Maybe back to the drawing board. The humor part of cartooning is the hard part, it is the drawing part that I never have a problem with.

Any advice anyone?

Squerk - that calamari thing is hilarious. The drawing is awesome though, I don't see why you think you don't have it down.

Do you do little comics like this a lot? I'd love to see them.

I always wanted to do a little online comic strip... but I really don't have the drawing capacity. *shrug* Oh well.

Keep up the good work! Martyr those insecurities!

Thanks for the support man. I was mainly discouraged because the only comment for like an hour was one compairing me to family circus...which I absolutely loath. LOL, I'm glad someone found one of them funny. smile Yes, I actually do have a ton of cartoon/comics laying around. One of these days I mean to do an actual webcomic. Time is my enemy... frown

I can try. Granted, there's a good chance that I have it completely wrong... but I can explain why it was funny to me.

There's this evil deity named Cthulhu in an H.P. Lovecraft book, titled "Call of Cthulhu"

Lovecraft on pronunciation - The best approximation one can make is to grunt, bark, or cough the imperfectly formed syllables Cluh-Luh with the tip of the tongue firmly affixed to the roof of the mouth. That is, if one is a human being. Directions for other entities are naturally different.

From the book:

A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings; but it was the general outline of the whole which made it most shockingly frightful

Anyway, Cthulhu for some reason has ended up being the 'posterdemon' for most of geekdom. Everything from t-shirts representing 'the collect-call of Cthulhu' to the hilarious Hello Cthulhu!.

The tentacles coming out of the 'Pizza Cult' box is the head of Cthulhu. Whether he's waiting to eat the guy, or the severed head happens to just be a topping, I'm not sure. Nor do I think the reason of the head being on the pizza is where the humor lies. Either way, it was fucking hilarious to me.

[/GEEK]

Squerk, help me out here if I'm wrong.

Mmmm, the head of Cthulhu on a pizza. That makes me smile with hunger smile So, in a lot of lovecraft based literature and illustration, there are a multitude of creatures which have tentacles of some sort. So what is under that pizza box is really up to you. Use your imagination...if you dare... (dramatic music here)

This is fascinating to me now. Where did you get the impression it was Cthulhu in the box?

squerk mentioned something about:

Pshaw, pick a side! wink

AceTracer mentioned something about:

I think it was the 'pizza cult' that threw me in the Cthulhu direction. Although yes, I'm sure there are quite a number of squiggly faced demony things that could be summoned (and who knows the possiblities of coming up with new ones!!!) by a group of fun-loving demon worshippers, Cthulhu is really the most recognizable. At least, in my opinion.

That or mind flayers.

[/GEEK]

-D

P.S. - I showed the comic to my friend Nessa, and her first thought was Cthulhu as well... so I'm sticking to my guns!

I definitely had Cthulhu in mind when I drew it. smile But if someone sees something else, that is out of my control. LOL, maybe I should do another one with puppies inside the box. *evil grin*

I laughed so freaking hard when I saw that family circus /mind flayer bit. That's classic... oh man. I'm showing that to everyone I know.

By the way, Squerk... I checked out your DA site. You are quite talented. I kind of suck at giving compliments, so... yar.

Chicken costumes ARE awesome, so the first one just wasn't funny except for the part about a chicken costume. Second one was funny because the demon of chaos was there. Family Circus maks unicorns vomit.
