Yeah, that's it, we'll win elections by hording guns and holing up in Montana. It works so well.

Great, but we're still talking guys with shotguns vs. military. Our means of resistance is voting.

Well the Iraqis seem to be holding up well.

Though I think the difference there is they know they can't win, but they can be annoying enough to make the superior US military pack up and leave. Whereas if the military is fighting on their own soil, they probably aren't going to leave...

Why do people always say this?

If there is a revolution/civil war the military will split as well, and soldiers will run away with their hardware. Planes, boats, guns, rockets, missles, missle defense systems(like patriots). Sure the rebel force will still be smaller and underpowered, but it won't be slingshots against nukes. Even if it was that polarized, the North Vietnamese held us off with nearly as primitive a military. The only thing missing, is it has to get that bad in this country for that to happen and we are generations from that.

Wow, neat. I call dibs on the Apache gunner.

what if montana becomes rebel territory, the revolutionary force could conceivably hold something that size, so no more need to win elections wink

Most revolutions happen in situations where the people are severely repressed or persecuted. Our system at its core is based around the government being for the people and basically doing what THEY say. This has for the most part stayed in tact and hence theres nothing to really get all revolutionary over. If a large portion of the country really wants something changed they ussually get it if they try for long enough. As long as our basic principles (democratically elected leaders, equality, freedom of speech, free market etc.) stay in tact we should be just dandy.

Black Panthers.

Native American revolts. Both in the 1800's and the 1970's.

I know a Chicano group "took" an island off the CA coast in the 1970's.

White Supremists, first as the KKK. Oklahoma city bombing. Now, there are Nazi's in Daytona Beach as we debate this. Handing out flyers during race week. Since most NASCAR fans are white, race week has taken on a new meaning.

These are in tha last 40 years. Think of all the crap before that.

You left out the movie, Deep Throat!

Modern science cannot yet quantify how perfect that response was.

I've actually thought about this recently.
I think the american people as a whole are too afraid of pain/suffering/death to take part in an armed revolution unless its for something really really big. I can't even imagine anything that would cause the american people to rise up in enough numbers to do anything.

thats because we can be too afraid. thats a good thing.
violent revolution isnt a hobby. its a reaction to an intolerable living condition.

also we have the means to change our lives. we are free to leave the country or enter politics or taske part in democracy. there is absolutely no justification for a violent reaction. we arent being forced into a situation without representation by another nations government like the colonists were.

Relative to the rest of the world this country is a toddler, and still has a remarkably gruesome history. Hardly enough time has passed to start patting ourselves on the back just yet.

what i'm saying is even if conditions are quote unquote unbearable, they beat out death for a good time
