Ok, well, bella420 and I have a dog, a pekapoo(that's half pekanese(sp), half poodle). His name is nugget(someone in our household smokes the reefer), he weighs about 5 pounds if we're lucky, can't get in trouble because he's so cute you could vomit and had lots of hair, emphasis on had. Nugget is better at chewing his brush than us brushing him, and because he's so squirmy and small, it's very difficult and a little nerve wracking trying to hold him down, so he had very thick, VERY knotted black hair all over his little body. I was shaving this morning because I can't sleep and got off work at six this morning and have been awake for about 14 hours. He was sitting there watching me shave my somewhat bushy beard and I got an idea. It's not easy using an electric shaver on a dog that is roughly twice the size of said shaver, but i'm a tenacious bugger and he's got a lot less knots. Unfortunately, he now has extremely uneven, very short hair all over his body, kinda longish uneven hair on his legs, and little mini dreads all around his head. bella420 is going to KILL ME, so I just thought I'd let the world know why I died, and that I didn't do it out of malice or cruelty, just insomnia and a misguided sense of responsibility.
Take that poor dog to a groomer. He or she will fix the mini-dreads around the head situation and even Nugget up. Start taking him like once every month or two months. Knotty fur can actually be uncomfortable for animals, so treat your puppy right and get him groomed.
If it makes you feel any better, I have a similar story involving a beard trimmer and my pubic hair... It didn't involve knots, but the little bugger was difficult to handle once I fired up the trimmer.
She's the one with the camera phone, so, sadly, no pics.
I would love to take him to a groomer, but it doesn't always work out that way, we're poor and I think we're a little embarassed to take him to the groomer, we went once, don't know why we haven't gone again. I'm very aware that it's bad for him to have knots and such, and i'm very concerned about it.

I hate to sound snarky, but when someone says "too poor to take my dog to the groomer" I hear "too poor to own a dog."
