...and it was 38 degrees outside, and you didn't get paid till Monday, and your heat, hot water, and stove/oven were ALL gas, would it be terrible, hypothetically speaking of course, to turn it back on yourself until you could get it paid?

And, theoretically, of course, what would be the likelihood of getting caught and the hypothetical punishment for doing so, aside from possibly blowing one's self up?

And how would one hypothetically go about doing so, if one were familiar with how to relight pilot lights and all that...

I like the one about killing baby Hitler better...

And I'd try to get someone to let me stay at their house until I could get the heat back on legally.

No can do. Work at home, have to be here. Have two ferrets, 7 fish, and a hairless rat. Etc.

Turning your gas back on is much more complicated than relighting pilot lights.

Please, do not fuck with your gas lines, I'd like to see your "Electroclash 101" music sampler in 15 years.

Hypothetically speaking....get a better paying job, or manage your finances a little better. wink On a side note, if you do get caught it's a pretty hefty fine. So in the end you're only hurting yourself worse. Take your pets to a friends and wear warm clothes for a couple of days. smile

I was going to suggest cuddling up with someone you love, but from this post, it looks like that is out too.

I guess there's always the (hypothetical) ferrets.

I've had my electricity turned off in the past. It sucks. Can you stay with friends? Also, see if you can drain the pipes or something before you leave for the weekend so they don't burst.

My "friend" once did this. There is a bolt on the meter. It has(should have) a squareish end. I don't remeber if it is sticking out or recessed. If it is sticking out any wrench that size should work. If it is recessed, you'd need a 1/2" drive(I believe...maybe) socket wrench. If you turn it to the left it let's the gas flow. It should have a 'stop' so it won't go too far. You could always go look at yours and tell me what you see...strictly for research purposes, that is.(or better yet...digital photo)

As far as what happens to the peoples that do it. I guess it depends on the location. Here inWestern Oklahoma, my "friend" got a stern talking to by the gas co. and...get this...they took the entire meter away. Then the only way to get it back is to pay the old bill, the gas that was taken, and a deposit for reinstallation.

Technically, once the cost of the gas, that is taken, goes over $50(I believe), it is a felony if they(the gas co.) want to be assholes.

I think we're just going to tough it out. The temperature'll be rising every day till Monday, and I think we'll just go shower at someone else's house or something till Monday. If I do try it I'll turn it on after business hours.

I doubt they could take our meter, since it's 4 separate meters attached to each other for the 4 apartments in my house/building. Not a complex, just two old houses divided into 4 apartments.

If you still have electricity, maybe you can beg, borrow , plead yourself some space heaters for the weekend.

My wife's bringing home a space heater from her work tonight.

The ferret's are fine, they don't care. They're furry and they can't even live above 80 degrees, so they like it a bit nippy. The fish have an electric water heater in their tank. The rat I'm worried about, but she's just nestled into her hut and seems to be taking it okay. The low last night and tonight was "only" 32, so yeah, technically freezing, but not so cold as to worry about hypothermia or pipes bursting. Low tomorrow and the next two or three days is rising.

By the way, my wife is the Noah of the house. wink
