If so, how do you do it? What wakes you up?

I ask because I'm a light sleeper- basically, the sound of a cotton ball touching a piece of felt would wake me up. My roomie is the complete opposite, he has the TV on all night. It's not a problem, but I do get awakened by it frequently.

i adore falling asleep to either mucis of the tv. actually unless i am dead tired i can't fall asleep just by lying down, my mind wanders too much. usually i set the sleep button to a half hour and fall asleep before it shuts off. though i have funny stories of just falling asleep to the tv randomly and waking up fucking confused to hell with what i wake up to. the best story i have was to falling asleep to stuff on winamp and waking up to smack my bitch up and falling back asleep and having one hell of a dream about a threesome involving a shit load of bondage and coke.

Can't do it. It's distracting, and I can't get to sleep with TV/radio on. Soft instrumental music can work, but if there's a loud bit it'll wake me up, so I usually sleep with nothing more obtrusive than the fan on.

Only when I fall asleep on the couch watching a dvd or something.

I used to leave it on when I lived in the middle of nowhere, it would be dead quiet otherwise and keep me up. Here in the city I don't have that issue.

I sleep better when I have the TV on... and I'm a very light sleeper. The constant noise is easier for me to "ignore" than quiet interrupted by other noises.

As for waking up, I wake up between 4:30 and 5:30 everyday on my own. My early mornings before the kids get up are the only time I have to myself and I cherish it!

I can't fall asleep without the following things:

Pitch blackness
Silence
warmth
masturbation

Other than that I have no problems falling asleep.

I sleep with Monty Python's Flying Circus streaming on winamp. Because it keeps me from falling too deeply into sleep, it actually helps me wake up in the morning for my classes.

To give you some idea, though, of how deeply I sleep: in addition to keeping Python on in the background, my cell phone alarm goes off three times at ten-minute intervals that I have to change every night to keep from growing accustomed to it, I have an alarm clock across the room, and my television's auto-on feature is set to wake me as a last resort.

I need total silence when I sleep. Any noise will wake me up and it REALLY pisses me off.

That's called tinitus, and you need to get it checked out by a doctor NOW!

Yeah, dude, time to put in the ol' earplugs when you go to concerts.

That shit could be permanent, yo, and only get worse as you get older.

My wife really needs to have background noise when she sleeps because the sound of me breathing annoys her. Also now she claims I snore. As if. But there is no TV in our bedroom but we have an air filter that serves also as a white noise maker. It's useful to drown out the noises of the city -- we're right on a busy, noisy street.

I'm a very heavy sleeper and find it very difficult to wake up. I would routinely sleep through alarms or wake up and turn them off without really waking up... wouldn't remember doing it later after I overslept.

Not now... because now I have the greatest alarm clock EVER.
